The second game on Thursday features Poland taking on Austria in a Group D clash between two teams looking to rebound after opening-round defeats. Read on for our Poland vs Austria predictions.
Poland vs Austria prediction
For the Poland vs Austria match prediction, we believe the final score will be a 1-0 win in favor of Poland based on our analysis.
The Poles were a bit unlucky against the Dutch, conceding a deflection and a late goal. They certainly weren't outplayed, and the same goes for the Austrians, who are also a solid team. We expect these evenly matched opponents to neutralize each other somewhat, especially with neither wanting to risk a loss and entering the third matchday without any points. However, Poland seems to have a bit more firepower, so they might edge it.
Here are our predictions for the Poland vs Austria game, with further analysis to follow:
Poland (0) Asian Handicap @ +175 with bet365
Karol Swiderski to Score @ +400 with bet365

Poland vs Austria head-to-head statistics
This will be the first meeting between the nations since 2019, when they drew 0-0 in Euro 2020 qualification.
Interestingly, Poland has never lost to Austria, winning three of the previous five matches, with one of the draws being a 1-1 tie during Euro 2008.
Poland vs Austria preview
This match begins on June 21, 2024, and will be played at Berlin’s Olympiastadion. Kickoff is at 12:00 PM ET.
Among all the teams in the first round of group games, Poland was perhaps the most unfortunate.
They took an early lead against the Netherlands and held their own for much of the contest, conceding via an unlucky deflection in the first half before Dutch super-sub Wout Weghorst delivered a crushing blow inside the final ten minutes.
Despite the disappointing result, the Poles should find encouragement for this game. They matched a strong side for large portions of the contest and played some good soccer.
With a mix of pace, power, and creativity, they should not be underestimated in this match.
The Austrians also likely felt hard done by in their opening game. They lost to France by a single goal, conceding just moments after the lively Christoph Baumgartner missed a golden chance.
Like Poland against the Netherlands, this Austria team battled hard against France and were far from outplayed. They should also fancy their chances here.
One area the Austrians need to improve is their finishing. They moved the ball into promising positions throughout the game against France but faltered either in delivering the final pass or executing the final strike.
Poland vs Austria betting picks
Two bets stand out as viable options ahead of Thursday’s second game between Poland and Austria:
Poland (0) Asian Handicap
I'm not ready to write off the Poles at Euro 2024. Even with Robert Lewandowski's fitness in question, they look like a team that's tough to beat.
They are solid defensively and have goals in them too. Target man Adam Buksa proved his worth when nodding home against the Dutch, while Karol Swiderski is another good option up top.
With Napoli’s Zielinski, Lens’ Frankowski, and Fenerbahce’s Szymanski providing plenty of creativity, this team is more than just a threat on set pieces.
The Austrians are a good team, but do they offer the same level of end-product as this Polish side? I’m skeptical. Before the tournament, we saw the Poles score three against Ukraine and beat a decent Turkey team just days before heading to Germany.
Prior to their loss against France, Austria battled hard and got into good offensive positions, but they also gave away chances, and their lack of final-third productivity meant they couldn't beat Switzerland in their final warm-up game either.
The Poles appear to be generously priced. In my view, they offered more against the Dutch than Austria did against France, which doesn’t seem to be accurately reflected in the early betting odds.
Karol Swiderski to Score
I'm also backing a goalscorer, and Karol Swiderski gets the nod. The Verona forward didn’t start against the Dutch but almost made a significant impact off the bench.
In the second half, Swiderski showed good movement and came close to scoring, forcing a fine save from Dutch goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen.
After impressing as a substitute, this more winnable game might see Swiderski start, making him a good bet at +400 with bet365.
Swiderski can certainly pose a threat. He scored 12 goals for Charlotte FC in Major League Soccer in 2023, which earned him a January move to Serie A with Verona.
In Italy, he has scored just two league goals, but his playing time has been limited, and he averages a respectable 0.36 goals per 90 minutes.
Moreover, in a Poland shirt, he averaged 0.34 goals per 90 minutes in qualifying and posted an impressive 0.57 xG off the bench in the first group game.
Recap - Poland vs Austria betting picks
To recap, here are two recommended bets for this Euro 2024 clash:
Poland (0) Asian Handicap @ +175 with bet365
Karol Swiderski to Score @ +400 with bet365
