On Wednesday evening in Group F, Georgia and Portugal will face off in Gelsenkirchen, with both teams having different goals. Portugal only needs a point to secure the top spot in the group, while Georgia needs an unlikely win to advance. Here are our predictions for the Georgia vs Portugal match.

Georgia vs Portugal prediction

For the Georgia vs Portugal match prediction, we believe the final score will be a 2-0 win for Portugal based on our analysis.

Despite their efforts, the Georgians lacked the offensive power to challenge Turkey on matchday one and could only manage a draw against the Czechs. Therefore, we expect them to fall short against the strongest team in the group.

Our specific predictions for the game are:

  • Georges Mikautadze Over 0.5 Shots on Target @ +225 with bet365

  • Guram Kashia to be Booked @ +400 with bet365

Georgia vs Portugal head-to-head statistics

This will be just the second meeting between the two teams and the first in a major tournament. The only previous encounter was in 2008, when Portugal won 2-0.

Georgia vs Portugal preview

The match will be played on June 26, 2024, at Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, with kickoff at 3:00 PM ET.

On matchday one, despite losing to Turkey, Georgia showed they were not in Germany just to make up the numbers. They fought hard and tried to advance, instead of merely absorbing pressure, which could have been expected as the underdogs.

However, after losing to Turkey, Georgia needed to beat the Czechs on matchday two to have a realistic chance of advancing. A draw in that game was not enough, making a win against Portugal seem highly unlikely. Despite leading through forward Georges Mikautadze, who is expected to move away from relegated Ligue 1 side Metz, Georgia could not secure maximum points.

Can Georgia now do the unthinkable and beat a strong Portugal team to book their place in the knockouts at their first ever tournament? Almost certainly not, but if the first two games are any indication, they’ll give it a good go.

Portugal, on the other hand, had a dramatic comeback win against the Czechs thanks to a stoppage-time goal from Francisco Conceicao, and a more straightforward victory against Turkey. In the second match, Cristiano Ronaldo assisted Bruno Fernandes to secure the win.

Portugal has shown they can shift into higher gears, and it will be interesting to see how they perform once the group stages are over.

Georgia vs Portugal betting picks

With Portugal heavily favored, we recommend focusing on player-specific bets for better value:

Georges Mikautadze Over 0.5 Shots on Target

I’ve backed Mikautadze to score in Georgia’s first two games, and he has delivered. While I won’t bet on him to score here, I am backing him to get at least one shot on target at +225 odds.

Mikautadze is a lively forward with end-product capability. Although Georgia has struggled to get him the ball at times, given his quality, these odds are generous. He averaged 1.24 shots on target per game for Metz in Ligue 1 last season.

Guram Kashia to be Booked

Another good bet is for Georgia’s captain, Guram Kashia, to be booked. He was carded against the Czechs and often finds himself up against faster, more agile players. Given his combative style and two yellows in his last five games for club and country, +400 odds seem generous.
