MLS picks and best bets

Ahead of the next round of MLS fixtures, I've landed on two picks, both of which focus on players to score at generous-looking early odds.

Luciano Acosta to Score

(FC Cincinnati vs Inter Miami)

FC Cincinnati key man Luciano Acosta, who has arguably been the best player in all of Major League Soccer for a second season in a row, hasn’t scored for a few games, but it would take someone rather ill-informed to write the Argentine off.

The tricky and dynamic playmaker has created plenty for others this season, recording no less than 15 assists already, which really is superb, but he remains a big goal threat, so much so that he looks slightly generously priced to notch in this fixture.

Acosta currently averages 0.45 goals per 90 minutes in Major League Soccer this season, while we know he’s not shy to shoot.

Running at players from deep or drifting wide, the little Argentine knows how to work himself into shooting openings, while he’s clearly a deadly finisher, as we’ve seen over the last few seasons. Factor in that averages 2.84 shots per game and he looks a decent bet to score against an Inter Miami side that we know is always very open.

Sebastian Ferreira Vidal to Score

(Houston Dynamo vs Los Angeles FC)

The LAFC boys are flying high right now, especially after their El-Trafico win against rivals LA Galaxy in the week, but they’re not exactly keeping teams out on a hugely regular basis, keeping just one clean sheet in their last five games.

What’s more, the visiting defense could be in for a tough evening against a Houston attack that has made plenty of headway in recent weeks.

Looking at the early lines, I’m a big fan of Sebastian Ferreira Vidal hitting the net for the hosts in this fixture.

The Paraguayan spent some time away playing in Brazil in recent times, but he’s now back and can play a big part for the Dynamo in the run up to the play-offs. After all, he showed he’s still a man with goal-scoring capabilities in Major League Soccer when notching a hat-trick against D.C. United recently.

It’s also hard to ignore the fact that the 26-year-old averages a whopping 0.92 goals per 90 minutes in MLS this season, averaging a very decent 2.53 shots per game.

When he plays, he looks hungry, and if he’s in the starting line-up here, which I’m expecting him to be, he’s well worth betting on with +210 at BetMGM.
