The switch up in competitions worked well for the Earthquakes last time out, as they managed to get the better of Mexican opponents Guadalajara via penalties, following a 1-1 tie.

That effort was an improvement, though does it pave the way for further success here? I’m skeptical.

The Earthquakes have struggled to get going against MLS opponents in recent times, losing each of their last three games to teams of that ilk, scoring just one goal in the process.

For the visitors, though, things are looking up. They come into this Leagues Cup campaign off the back of consecutive Major League Soccer wins, scoring a pleasing six goals in the process.

Greg Vanney’s men have won three of their last four games and they look like a team that means business offensively, that’s for sure. Moreover, they know all about not just facing but beating the Earthquakes this season, having done so not once, not twice, but thrice.

While I agree that the Galaxy ought to be favorites ahead of this clash, and while I also agree that they’re the most likely winners, I’m not too sure that they warrant odds of +100.

Sure, they’ve beaten San Jose several times already, but this is a different competition, one that may not be their priority. On that basis, I’m staying away from the Moneyline on this occasion.

Instead, there’s a juicy little player prop that looks quite nicely priced, so I’ll be going down that route instead.

Gabriel Pec Anytime Scorer

Brazilian forward Gabriel Pec, who has impressed both out wide and in central areas for the Galaxy this season, has enjoyed himself in Major League Soccer this season.

His performances during the first half of the campaign earned him a spot on the All-Star squad, and while he didn’t really get much chance to make an impact there, he can now do the business in the Leagues Cup.

Pec has made a total of 19 goal contributions in Major League Soccer this season, scoring an impressive ten goals, notching an average of 0.45 goals per 90 minutes.

The 23-year-old has also scored four goals in his last five starts for the Galaxy, while he scored against San Jose earlier in the campaign too.

Factor in that he’ll be hungry now returning from his All-Star duty, having registered 16 shots in his last four games for the Galaxy, and odds of +170 look worth taking.
