Major League Soccer returned with a bang last weekend. In stadiums all over the US, fans looked on as their teams returned to domestic action and they’ll now be hungry for more.

Domestic soccer bettors will also have welcomed last weekend’s return to action, especially goal bettors, who had plenty to cheer as it was goals galore in many places.

Ahead of the upcoming weekend, we’re diving back into the data to see if we can uncover a few betting gems. Read on for our MLS best bets for August 31st.

MLS picks and best bets

There are a couple of really juicy bets to sink our teeth into this weekend, with a couple of player bets appealing greatly at the available odds. Let’s go for it.

Daniel Gazdag to Score

(New York Red Bulls vs Philadelphia Union)

Main man Daniel Gazdag failed to make his usual sizable contribution as Philly slumped to mid-week defeat against the Columbus Crew, but I really wouldn’t rush to write him off on that basis.

The Hungarian has dipped in and out of form this season, which is obviously frustrating for Union fans, but he often bounces back quickly, while we know just how dangerous he can be when he’s on it.

At odds of +275, I’m betting that he’ll be on it by scoring at Red Bull Arena on Saturday evening. After all, the forward has notched 14 goals this season.

During the current MLS season, Gazdag averages 0.67 goals per 90 minutes, as well as 0.63 xG. Such stats are too good to ignore as far as I’m concerned.

Sam Surridge to Score

(Orlando City vs Nashville SC)

Another player who failed to make the desired impression in his most recent appearance is Nashville’s Sam Surridge, but like Gazdag, he has a habit of bouncing back quickly.

The Englishman is clearly an important player for the men from Music City, scoring eight goals so far during the current Major League Soccer campaign.

Surridge has notched an average of 0.43 goals this term, shooting an average of 2.26 times per game.

Against an Orlando team that won’t waste too much time sitting back and defending, I’m betting on the Nashville forward to profit on the break, as he often has done.

Evander to Score

(Portland Timbers vs Seattle Sounders)

While the two players above didn’t enjoy fruitful games last time out, Portland’s Evander once again delivered the goods, scoring a late goal to round off what was an excellent win for the timbers.

At odds of +240, I’m betting on the Brazilian to repeat that trick here. Let’s face it, few players have made an impact as big as the one that Evander has made at Providence Park.

Nearly everything that’s good about the Timbers in an offensive sense goes through their main man, who has now scored 12 goals this season, scoring an excellent average of 0.59 goals per game.

Throwing in an average of 3.05 shots per 90 minutes and at odds of +240, Evander is very easy to support ahead of this weekend’s home game.
