The Major League Soccer action taking place this weekend rolls on into Sunday as St. Louis City hosts the Los Angeles Galaxy at CITYPARK.

After that roller coaster game in Portland last weekend, the hosts will be looking to come out on top, but this is no easy fixture, not at all. Read on for our St. Louis City vs LA Galaxy predictions.

St. Louis City vs LA Galaxy prediction

For the St. Louis City vs LA Galaxy vs Real Salt Lake match prediction, we believe the final score will be a 2-2 tie based on our analysis.

We know that both teams have goals in the locker, while both have shown the ability to hurt each other already this season, but they couldn’t be separated in the reverse fixture, so it wouldn’t be too surprising if we saw something similar here.

Our picks and predictions for this Major League Soccer fixture are as follows:

St. Louis City vs LA Galaxy head-to-head statistics

This will be the second renewal of this fixture during the current season, with the pair tying 3-3 at Dignity Health Sports Park back in March. Interestingly, each of the three previous (competitive) renewals of this fixture have ended all square.

St. Louis City vs LA Galaxy preview

This game will take place on 01/09/2024 at CITYPARK. Kick off will be 12:45 local time.

After enjoying no shortage of high-scoring fixtures during the Leagues Cup campaign, the St. Louis City boys made an ultra high-scoring return to Major League Soccer last weekend.

Despite scoring three first-half goals, notching four in total, the team temporarily coached by John Hackworth couldn’t come out on top at Providence Park.

Unfortunately, as has too often been the case, some superb offensive work was cancelled out by poor defending. Will they tighten up now back on home soil? Or will this be another goal-filled game? The latter seems likely, let’s be honest.

For the Galaxy, it was a winning return to MLS action. They got the better of Atlanta United in front of a home crowd, scoring twice without reply.

Having dipped out of the Leagues Cup somewhat tamely, Grag Vanney’s men shifted through the gears last time out, warming up nicely for what will be a test at CITYPARK.

Perhaps the highlight for the current Western Conference leaders last week was the debut of Marco Reus, who entered the field in the second half, scoring and assisting, instantly endearing himself towards the Galaxy faithful.

St. Louis City vs LA Galaxy picks

I’m throwing player-bet darts at this Major League Soccer fixture, both of which look a little generously priced.

Tomas Totland to be Booked

Defender Tomas Totland really does look generously priced to go into the referee’s book at CITYPARK on Saturday evening.

The Norwegian, who is typically deployed at full back, hasn’t been a stranger to getting booked this season, picking up six yellow cards, and since he hasn’t been a regular starter from the word go, that’s quite a lot.

Totland averages 0.25 cards per game. In other words, he’s getting booked once every four games, or 25% of the time. In terms of betting odds, 25% translates to +300, so odds of +500 are absolutely worth taking advantage of.

After all, the wide defender will likely have his hands full against Galaxy’s several dangerous offensive players.

Ricard Puig to be Booked

For the visitors, Ricard (aka Riqui) Puig also looks like a nice bet to get booked. The Spaniard is a key man for Galaxy, especially in a creative sense, but he’s absolutely not unfamiliar with the referee’s whistle.

He also knows what it feels like to be shown a yellow having been booked no less than eight times, meaning that he averages 0.36 yellows per 90 minutes.

Doing the same as above, 0.36 comes out as odds of +178, so there’s definitely a chunk of value to be had by taking odds of +400.

With this likely to be an intense game, with both teams going for it, much as they did in the reverse fixture, don’t be surprised if Galaxy’s often hot-headed talisman gets his name taken.
