It seems like just yesterday that we were waiting for the return of America’s number one soccer league, and yet the third weekend of Major League Soccer action following the restart already looms large. Time really does fly.

Once again, we’re back searching for the best bets of the weekend, so let’s get stuck in and see what we can find this time around. Read on for our MLS best bets for Sept 7th.

MLS picks and best bets

Ahead of Saturday’s action, there are a few juicy opportunities to quench our betting thirst, including a couple of generously-priced player props. Here we go.

Luca Langoni to Score

(New England Revolution vs St. Louis City)

First on the list this week is New England’s new boy Luca Langoni, who has taken no time at all to make a sizable impact.

The 22-year-old forward bids to follow a similar path to other South American youngsters who found success in the US, and he’s certainly started well, scoring and assisting in his first 48 minutes for the Revs.

In what was a 14-minute debut off the bench against Montreal, Langoni managed to notch and register an assist, which earned him 34 minutes last weekend against RSL.

Having twice looked lively and hungry off the bench, I wouldn’t be too surprised if the Argentine starts here, especially as the Revs will likely be looking to freshen things up following defeat last time out.

Still rough around the edges, Langoni is a diamond that can shine in MLS. After all, he scored nine goals in 30 appearances for giants Boca Juniors back in Argentina, averaging a chunky 0.47 goals per 90 minutes.

If he starts against what can only be described as a weak St. Louis City back-line, i’ll be betting on him to find the net at odds of +260.

Olivier Giroud to Score

(Houston Dynamo vs LAFC)

A man who needs very little introduction, Oliver Giroud will now be looking to make his mark for LAFC having recently made his Major League Soccer debut.

Teaming up with fellow French World Cup winner Hugo Lloris, Giroud looks set to be a big player for Steve Cherundolo’s men. Let’s face it, this is a man who has scored regular goals for some of the best clubs in Europe, scoring 15 times for AC Milan in Italy last season.

Yet to score in MLS, Giroud found the net in the Leagues Cup, and it likely won’t be long until he’s the source of pain for domestic keepers.

Given his recent season averages of 0.57, 0.55 and 0.52 goals per 90 minutes, the French goal grabber, who also has a career average of 3.19 shots per 90, is worth betting on to score at Shell Energy Stadium.

Ryan Gauld to Score

(Vancouver Whitecaps vs FC Dallas)

For my money, Ryan Gauld is up there with the very best talents in Major League Soccer. With his team far from likely to lay down a serious MLS Cup challenge, he probably won’t feature in the race for the MVP, but this is a man with serious MVP qualities.

A scorer of superb goals, Gauld hasn’t notched in Major League Soccer for a while, but he did return to the scoresheet in the Canadian Cup recently, while he looked hungry for more when assisting against Austin last weekend.

Clearly in confident form right now, the Scotsman may just get back among the goals in front of a home crowd on Saturday.

Let’s face it, despite his clear penchant for creating, he’s no stranger to scoring, notching nine goals this season, scoring an average 0.38 goals per 90 minutes.
