Frances Tiafoe is playing some of the hottest hard-court tennis of his life right now, there’s no doubt about that, but this will be tough for the lower-ranked player, who has a less than pleasing record against Taylor Fritz.
Fritz, who has had the harder path to the semis by facing Casper Ruud and Alexander Zverev, both of whom rank inside the top eight, has won each of his last six matches against Tiafoe, all of which have been on a hard surface.
When the pair last met in a Grand Slam, at the Australian Open in 2022, Fritz won in straight sets. Such stats are not easy to ignore.
