The tennis action on the WTA Tour will be coming thick and fast this week, with two tournaments taking place concurrently, in Mexico and Tunisia.

Here, our focus is on the WTA event in Morocco, otherwise known as the Jasmin Open, won last year by Belgian player Elise Mertens, who also won this event in 2022 and who will be looking to defend her title this time around. Read on for our WTA tennis predictions.

Tuesday’s WTA tennis picks

Of the matches taking place at the Jasmin Open on Tuesday, it is the showdown between Great Britain’s Sonay Kartal and Romania’s Jaqueline Cristian.

Sonay Kartal vs Jaqueline Cristian picks

In the early betting ahead of this contest, one of the two players involved is very easy to side with given the odds available (at the time of writing).

Jaqueline Cristian to Win

Jacqueline Cristian is thought of as the slight outsider in the early market, but I take issue with that, so much so that betting on the Romanian to come out on top at odds of +110 appears to offer very nice value for money, as the table above suggests.

Kartal is an improving player, sure, and she’s picked up a couple of nice wins in qualifying for this tournament, but she now steps up in grade, and I’m just not sure that she’s quite as capable of taking this step up in her stride as the early odds suggest.

Cristian doesn’t exactly arrive in hot hard-court form, with her exiting the US Open at the first time of asking, though she did go out to a player ranked 13th in the world, so perhaps we shouldn’t judge her too harshly for that.

The Romanian is capable of beating decent players on a hard surface, as she showed earlier in the season by beating the likes of Podoroska and Tauson, both of whom rank inside the top 100, easily ranking above Kartal.

Kartal also has very little experience at WTA level, which must be factored in, while this is just another match for Cristian, something she can use to her advantage as the more established and higher-ranked player.

Throw into the mix that the Romanian won when the pair met previously and it’s easy to feel that she’s slightly generously priced.

For my money, Cristian simply has a greater chance of success than a price of +110 would have us believe, so I’ll be taking the value while it’s available. Will you?
