For my money, as the table above shows, there’s value to be had by betting on the underdog to come out on top here.

Veronika Kudermetova to Win

This is an interesting match-up, and yes, Samsonova is the higher-ranked player and she’s not a player to dismiss, which is why she’s the second seed this week.

However, the world number 15 hasn’t played since the US Open, which means she’s surely at a bit of a disadvantage in terms of match readiness.

In contrast, Kudermetova played in the tournament in Mexico last week, while she looked in good form when coming through her first-round match in straight sets.

What we also must not ignore is the fact that Kudermetova has a very good record against her compatriot, which I’m not sure has been efficiently factored into the early prices.

When the pair last met, Kudermetova came out on top, winning in Berlin earlier this year, while she also won when they last played on a hard surface, in China last season.

Better still, it’s Kudermetova who has won four of the last five renewals of this fixture, with two of those wins coming on this surface.

Consider this positive record in conjunction with the fact that she has the edge in terms of recent match time and a case can definitely be made for Kudermetova being stronger in the market. Therefore, we’re taking value by betting on the world number 43 to improve her already promising record against Samsonova.
