San Jose Earthquakes vs St. Louis City head-to-head statistics

San Jose Earthquakes vs St. Louis City preview
This game will take place on 21/09/2024 at PayPal Park. Kick off will be at 20:30 local time.
Since returning from what was ultimately an unsuccessful foray into the Leagues Cup, the Earthquakes have struggled to build momentum. They did win their first game after the restart, beating RSL in somewhat surprising fashion.
Unfortunately, Saturday’s hosts have not been able to use that victory as a platform from which to build, picking up just one point from a possible nine. Jeremy Ebobisse returned from a knock last time, though it’s reported that he may have aggravated his problem in doing so, meaning that he is doubtful here, while key man Cristian Espinoza misses out through a ban.
For the visitors, it’s also been a mixed bag since domestic action returned. They’ve won one, tied two and lost one, coming up short, somewhat disappointingly, last time out against Minnesota, despite being surrounded by the comforts of home.
However, the visitors will take pleasure from the fact that the hosts are without a key player (possibly two), plus it’s not as if they’ve been struggling to score goals, which is a positive to draw on.
San Jose Earthquakes vs St. Louis City picks
Ahead of this Major League Soccer encounter, the following picks stands out at the early prices:
St. Louis City to Score Over 1.5 Goals
Getting their noses in front come the end of games is something that the St. Louis boys have struggled to do, but they’ve certainly not struggled to score goals, not at all.
Since MLS returned, Saturday’s visitors have scored nine goals, scoring two or more in three of those four, scoring six goals on the road.
This is a team that likes to play away from home. They’re strong on the break, and with players like Teuchert, Hartel and Lowen, they’ve got more than enough quality to open teams up.
At the same time, the hosts have struggled to keep teams out, recording no clean sheet in their last three, conceding two or more in each of those three. They’ve also kept just one of their last seven MLS opponents from finding the net.
Five of the last seven teams to visit PayPal Park in Major League Soccer have left having scored at least twice, while when the teams met earlier in the season, St. Louis scored twice, so don’t be surprised if we once again see the hosts struggle defensively.
Cedric Teuchert to Score
At bigger odds, it’s also worth betting on the visitors’ new main man to find the net. The German forward has been a revelation since swapping Hannover for St. Louis, scoring three goals in five games.
Scoring just four minutes in last time out, Teuchert is clearly enjoying the open nature of Major League Soccer, finding himself plenty of space to operate in, which has done him the world of good.
The 27-year-old, who scored 25 goals for Hannover in the last two seasons, has now scored in three of his last four MLS appearances, averaging 0.77 goals per 90 minutes.
Factor in that he’s shooting with regularity, averaging 4.09 efforts per game, and Teuchert looks worth betting on to find the net against a weak San Jose defense.
