Elina Avanesyan vs Marta Kostyuk picks

For my money, the Armenian player has a better chance of getting competitive here than the early odds suggest, prompting the following bet:

Elina Avenesyan +1.5 Set Handicap

For those looking for a sizable chunk of value, I really won’t put you off betting on Elina Avanesyan to win this match, as she’s clearly a bigger price than she should be. However, for those looking for value but looking for a higher chance of a return, betting on the Armenian to avoid a straight-set defeat is the clear way to go.

Listen, Marta Kostyuk is the higher-ranked player and she’s a very capable competitor on her day. The problem is, though, that the Ukrainian hasn’t had her day often enough in recent weeks.

In Seoul she came up woefully short against Daria Shnaider, while she was also outplayed (and beaten in straight sets) by US player Volynets, who is ranked not only below Kostyuk but below Avanesyan too.

Avanesyan also lost last time out, but she beat both Dolehide and Bektas before that, while she took a set off recent tournament winner Beatriz Haddad Maia at the US Open, which is not to be ignored.

We’ve also seen the Armenian player beat Cocciaretto and Ostapenko on hard courts in recent months, while she took a set off world number 15 Samsonova as well. This level of form tells me that she can definitely make life tough for Kostyuk, especially as the Ukrainian isn’t on top form right now.

After all, when the pair met on a hard court earlier this year, although Kostyuk did come out on top, it was far from plain sailing for the world number 17 Avanesyan won the first set on that occasion and could easily do something similar here.

All things considered, there disparity in quality between the pair looks to be less than the early odds suggest, so betting on Elina Avanesyan to, at the very least, avoid losing in straight sets, offers value for money all the time odds of -115 are available.
