Aryna Sabalenka vs Coco Gauff picks

I’m looking at the early lines here and I just cannot help but think that Coco Gauff is generously priced.

Coco Gauff to Win

There’s no way that Coco Gauff, in her current form, should be considered the +155 underdog here, absolutely not.

Sure, given that she’s the world number two, Aryna Sabalenka, who remains one of the very toughest WTA players to face, should be the narrow favourite, but right now, she’s not worthy of such markey supremacy.

The Belarusian hasn’t been at her brilliant best in recent weeks. She lost to the lower-ranked Muchova in Beijing, while she dropped a set against Puntintseva on her way to reaching this semi-final.

In contrast, Gauff won the tournament in Beijing, blowing away Muchova (in straight sets) in the final, while she hasn’t put a foot wrong since, dropping zero sets.

Not only can you argue that Gauff has her game in better shape right now, but it’s the younger player who actually leads the head-to-head between the pair.

Gauff and Sabalenka have faced each other seven times, with four of those matches going the way of the American.

Of course, head-to-heads aren’t everything and the record between these two tells us that they’re quite closely matched, so this could go either way, I’m certainly not suggesting otherwise, but what I am saying is that Gauff has done more than enough to be considered a slightly more likely winner than the early lines suggest.

In her current mood, as she bids to reach consecutive hard-court finals, I really wouldn’t be surprised if the 20-year-old got the job done, and while odds of +155 are available, i’ll be betting on her to do just that. Will you?
