We’ve nailed some excellent tennis winners of late, but Monday was certainly not a winning day as Cristina Bucsa folded rather tamely against Lucia Bronzetti, losing in straight sets. You win some, you lose some. We move on to Tuesday’s action.

The WTA event taking place in Japan, otherwise known as the Japan Women’s Open, played in Osaka, continues, with several matches to choose from. Read on for our WTA tennis predictions and picks.

Of the matches taking place in the Japanese city of Osaka on Tuesday, it’s the showdown between Katie Boulter and Sara Errani that catches the eye most from a betting point of view.

Katie Boulter vs Sara Errani picks

It’s hard to look beyond a simplistic victory for the British player here and looking at the early lines, it’s worth betting that we see just that.

Katie Boulter to Win 2-0

When we last saw Katie Boulter, she came up short against a rapidly improving and very useful Tsurenko. I’m not going to be too quick to judge in a negative way for that defeat, nor should she be criticised for losing to Coco Gauff, who is arguably the best player on the planet right now, before that.

Prior to her defeat against Gauff, who she pushed hard in the first set, Boulter showed her quality to get the better of Taylor Townsend in straight sets, a win that tells me she ought to be capable of brushing aside Sara Errani here.

After all, when the pair last met (on a hard court), Boulter won in straight sets, winning 6-3, 6-3. That’s not to be ignored.

Moreover, the Italian, though she has won her last two matches, has had the benefit of facing lower-ranked players at this tournament so far, which may not have prepared her all that well for a tough test against a player ranked inside the world’s top 40.

When Errani last faced a top-40 player, back in late August, she lost in straight sets to Daria Shnaider, losing 6-2, 6-2. She also lost in straight sets to Yafan Wang in her only other recent match against a player ranked 60th or better, losing 6-3, 6-0.

For my money, this is a huge opportunity for Boulter to regain the winning thread, and on all available evidence, she warrants stronger support to get the job done in straight sets than early odds of -120 suggest. I’d price such a bet at -140 (at least), so -120 is well worth taking if you’re searching for value.
