Having been one of the Western Conference’s better teams for most of the regular season, Orlando’s position in the play-offs was never really in doubt.
Unfortunately, Sunday’s hosts couldn’t end the regular campaign on a high, losing at home to Atlanta United, though we probably shouldn’t focus too much on that result. After all, they didn’t need to win, while overall, they were still the better team.
For Dean Smith’s men, a position in the postseason was never quite as guaranteed, so much so that it took some fantastic end-of-season form to force their way in.
Sunday’s visitors will arrive at Inter&Co Stadium having won each of their last three games, winning also four of their last five. They’ve certainly built momentum ahead of what will be a tough test.

In the betting, I cannot help but side with the hosts all the time that odds of -125 are available. As the table above suggests, such a price looks a little generous, such has been the level of Orlando at Inter&Co Stadium this year.
Prior to that defeat against Atlanta, which we really shouldn’t get too worked up about, Oscar Pareja’s men had won four MLS games on the spin at home, scoring plenty of goals, conceding very few.
In fact, the hosts have kept a clean sheet in three of their last five at home, conceding an average of just 0.40 goals during that time. This is hard to ignore, especially when we consider that the visitors have often delivered offensive efforts that can be described as subdued on the road.
Smith’s men have won just one of their last seven on the road, losing three of their last five, failing to score in two of those. They’ve scored more than a single goal in just one of their last five on the road.
We also know that they struggled immensely to get going in the final third when visiting Orlando just over a month ago. Having been totally outplayed on that occasion, I think we can quite easily make a case for the visitors being slightly bigger underdogs than they currently are.
