There’s a huge Premier League fixture taking place at Anfield on Sunday as runaway league leaders Liverpool face reigning champions Manchester City.

While the hosts go in search of yet another win, their seventh in as many games, the visitors are in desperate need of a pick-me-up having failed to win any of their last six games. Can they resume winning ways at the home of the team looking to snatch their crown? Read on for our Liverpool vs Man City predictions and picks.

Liverpool vs Man City prediction

For the Liverpool vs Man City game prediction, we believe the final score will be a 1-1 tie based on our analysis.

Sure, the visitors are out of form, but we shouldn’t base everything on that. They’re still tough to face, while the hosts haven’t exactly been winning by wide margins of late. Expect a tight game at Anfield.

Liverpool vs Man City head-to-head statistics

For the first time this season, Liverpool and Man City will clash in the Premier League. When they last met, the pair tied 1-1. Prior to that, they also tied 1-1.

Liverpool vs Man City preview

This game will take place on 01/12/2024 at Anfield. Kick off will be at 11:00 EST.

I wonder how many Liverpool fans would’ve believed you if, in August, you told them that ahead of an early December fixture against Manchester City, their team would have an eight-point cushion at the top of the table. My guess would be not many.

Eight points clear at the top is exactly where the Reds are at the start of this Premier League weekend, and they’ve got the opportunity to open up what would be an unbridgeable gap here. After winning each of their last six matches, beating Spanish giants Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League during the week, Arne Slot’s men will likely fancy themselves to do just that.

Similar to the above, back at the start of the campaign, had you told Manchester City fans that their team would be eight points shy of the league leaders at the beginning of December, they probably would’ve laughed, and loudly at that. Without wanting to sound like a certain British politician, and I use that term lightly, who seemingly spends most of his time following the recently elected US President around, they’re not laughing now.

Anyway, the visitors are struggling and desperately need a reprieve. In all honesty, if they’re serious about retaining their league title, this is a game that they need to win.

Liverpool vs Man City picks

Looking at the early lines, I like the look of the following picks:

Under 3.0 Asian Total

Big games often get the most attention and from the biggest games, we often expect the best action, especially in terms of goals, but big games don’t always equal goals. As far as I’m concerned, this fixture is anything but guaranteed to be goal filled, so much so that it’s worth betting on ‘Under 3.0 Asian Total’ at odds of +100.

Let’s face it, the hosts have kept plenty of clean sheets this season, shutting out three of their last four opponents in all competitions, while they’ve not always gone mad at the other end, scoring a maximum of two goals in each of their last seven league games.

Moreover, having conceded far too many goals of late, the visitors may be looking to take a more subdued approach, opting for a little more solidity at the back, which is absolutely what they need right now.

Each of the last two Premier League renewals of this fixture produced less than three goals, so it wouldn’t be the first time that the pair played out a cagey and relatively low-scoring game.

Darwin Nunez to Get a Card

At odds of +290, which are just too big, I can’t resist betting on the boisterous Darwin Nunez to pick up a booking. Is the Uruguayan a more useful forward than he often gets credit for? Sure. Can he cause City problems? Definitely. Is he likely to go all guns blazing and make fouls in this game? Absolutely.

Playing with no shortage of passion and desire, Darwin Nunez certainly wears his heart on his sleeve, so he’s no stranger to exploding in anger, while flying into somewhat ill-advised challenges is not something he’s averse to either, especially in high-pressure games such as this.

In terms of fouls conceded per 90 minutes, Nunez is Liverpool’s most prolific offender this season, and having gone into the book last time out against Real Madrid, also receiving yellows in big games against Arsenal and Chelsea this season, he’s well worth betting on to pick up a card (if he starts).
