As Christmas approaches, Premier League teams gear up for what will be a hugely busy period, which starts with the EFL Cup quarter-finals this week.
On Wednesday, Newcastle and Brentford will do business at St James’ Park, where the hosts will be looking to kick on following their big win at the weekend. Read on for our Newcastle vs Brentford predictions and picks.
Newcastle vs Brentford prediction
For the Newcastle vs Brentford game prediction, we believe the final score will be a 2-1 win for Newcastle based on our analysis.
The Bees simply cannot sting away from home like they can in West London, while this is very much where the Magpies do their best work, so don’t be surprised if this goes the way of the hosts.

Newcastle vs Brentford head-to-head statistics
Less than a fortnight ago, the pair met in West London, where Brentford won by four goals to two. When they last met in the North East, the Magpies won by a goal to nil.
Newcastle vs Brentford preview
This game will take place on 18/12/2024 at St James’ Park. Kick off will be at 15:45 EST.
Things weren’t looking overly rosy for Eddie Howe ahead of Saturday’s clash with Leicester, as the Newcastle boss had seen his team fail to win any of their previous four games, two of which they lost, including against Brentford.
However, that rather disappointing run was put to bed at the weekend, and in emphatic fashion as the Magpies stepped on the gas in front of a home crowd, dismantling Leicester City, scoring four goals on their way to picking up a confidence-boosting win. Just what the doctor ordered ahead of this EFL Cup quarter final.
For the Bees, Sunday’s game away at Stamford Bridge was all about showing that they can deliver a decent performance away from the comforts of home. They lost, and not for the first time on the road, where they’ve been very poor this term, though they did dig deep, frustrating the Blues for long periods, losing by the narrowest of margins.
However, the fact remains that this is a Brentford team without an away win in the league this season, with their only road success coming during the early rounds of this competition, when they got the better of League Two’s Colchester by a goal to nil. They’ll need to pull out more than that on Wednesday, that’s for sure.
Newcastle vs Brentford picks
As these two battle it out for a place in the final four, I’m going for one player prop, which looks a little generously priced.
Kevin Schade Over 0.5 Shots on Target
Their away form doesn’t exactly bode well for the visitors, but they do have the tools to cause a few problems, especially on the break, and it’s on the break that the speedy Kevin Schade could be a threat, so much so that he looks a good bet to work the Newcastle keeper at least once.
Not always in from the start, Schade came off the bench at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, but his pace and ability to stretch teams on the counter could prove invaluable at St. James’ Park, so he ought to be re-installed as a starter here.
The German is no stranger to shooting, there can be no denying this. He recently notched a hat-trick in the league, while he’s had more shots than all but two Brentford players this season, despite not always playing.
Schade currently averages 2.44 shots per 90 minutes, not to mention 1.22 shots on target per 90 minutes. Such numbers make odds of +130 look very attractive indeed.
