The opening game on Sunday sees Netherlands get up and running at Euro 2024. The men in Orange will be up against a very useful Polish team, so getting off to a good start may not be easy for the 1988 winners of this competition. Read on for our Poland vs Netherlands predictions.

Poland vs Netherlands prediction

For the Poland vs Netherlands match prediction, we believe the final score will be 3-2 in favour of the Netherlands based on our analysis.

A very interesting opener in Group D has a high-scoring feel to it. Both teams have delivered the goods offensively ahead of this tournament, so we shouldn’t be surprised to see plenty of final-third action here, with Netherlands perhaps edging it due to having that little bit extra in terms of star quality.

Our Poland vs Netherlands predictions are as follows, with analysis and reasoning below:

Poland vs Netherlands head-to-head statistics

Familiar foes, Poland and Netherlands have encountered each other several times in the recent past. Back in 2020, they shared a UEFA Nations League group, with the Dutch winning home and away (1-0 and 2-1).

In 2022, they once again did business in the same Nations League group, this time drawing 2-2 on Dutch soil, before the Netherlands edged it by a goal to nil in Poland.

Overall, the pair have met 16 times following their first ever match back in 1969. Nine of those matches have gone the way of the Dutch, with Poland picking up three wins along the way.

Poland vs Netherlands preview

This game is due to be played on 16/06/2024 at Volksparkstadion in Hamburg. Kick off will be at 14:00 GMT.

The Polish enter the Euros as one of the most in-form teams having made a habit of not only avoiding defeat in recent times, but picking up regular wins.

The team captained by highly experienced veteran striker Robert Lewandowski, who has always been something of a goal-scoring machine, will arrive in Germany off the back of two very pleasing warm-up wins against Ukraine and Turkey, while this is a team that has now not lost since September of last year.

Not only did the Poles win their two warm-up games, but they beat two sides that will also be involved in this competition, giving their wins more value, that’s for sure.

With several starting players who play for some of the best clubs in Europe’s best domestic leagues, Michał Probierz’s men will not be an easy side to face.

As for the Netherlands, well, so much is often expected of the team in the iconic orange kit, yet so little is often delivered.

This time around, though, things could be different as the team managed by Ronald Koeman seemingly contains a blend of experienced campaigners and exciting youngsters.

The Dutch have stormed into this tournament off the back of consecutive 4-0 wins over Canada and Iceland, so plenty is expected of them in an attacking sense, which is not typically an area they struggle in, though will they have the match-winning nous to compliment their stylish play? We’ll soon find out.

Poland vs Netherlands Betting tips

Ahead of Sunday’s opening fixture, I’ve settled on two betting positions, both of which focus on goals.

Over 2.5 Goals

To my eyes, of all the early games at Euro 2024, this Group D clash is the most likely to be ultra high-scoring. Am I saying that it definitely will be a goal-fest? Of course not (I haven’t got a crystal ball).

What I am saying is that there’s plenty to suggest that odds of Evens with bet365 look on the generous side.

For starters, we’re talking about two teams who turn into this junction having scored no shortage of goals in recent games. The Poles netted twice against a decent Turkey team last time out, while they also scored three against a useful Ukraine team a few days earlier.

The way in which they threatened in those two games tells me that Probierz’s men can cause the Dutch problems.

After all, in games against seriously competitive teams, this Netherlands side hasn’t exactly specialised in keeping it tight.

They conceded twice against the Germans back in March, while in qualifying for this competition, the French scored multiple goals against them too, while in the Nations League just before that, both Italy and Croatia scored multiple goals against a Dutch back-line that contains the same players here.

As I spoke about when looking at potential Euro 2024 outsider bets, the Dutch have lots about them offensively and there’s nothing to suggest that they’ll fail to make headway against a Poland team without a clean sheet against top-tier teams in nearly a year, but there are always defensive questions surrounding Oranje, question to which I’m not sure they’ll have the answers.

Ultimately, the signs point towards goals here, more so than early odds of even-money says they do if you ask me.

Over 3.0 Asian Goals

For the exact same reasons, I’m also going to plump for ‘Over 3.0 Asian Goals’, which for those who may not know, means to bet on the game to contain four or more goals, but we receive a full refund should only three goals be scored.

Not only have the Poles scored multiple goals in three of their last four matches, the Dutch have scored four or more in three of their last four. This will be harder for Koeman’s men, but both teams have little reason not to flex their offensive muscles here and if that’s the case, the goals should flow in Hamburg.

Whether they do or not, the early odds on offer look like value to this particular viewer, who watched on as the pair shared four goals just a couple of years ago. Maybe we’ll see the same here.

Recap - Poland vs Netherlands betting tips

To recap, the following bets are recommended ahead of this game between Poland and Netherlands.

Over 2.5 Goals @ Evens with bet365

Over 3.0 Goals @ 7/4 with bet365
