Last up on Wednesday, the Scots get their chance to bounce back following opening-night disappointment. They’re up against the Swiss, can they kick themselves in the fight for the knockouts? Read on for our Scotland vs Switzerland predictions.
Scotland vs Switzerland prediction
For the Scotland vs Switzerland match prediction, we believe the final score will be a 1-1 draw based on our analysis.
It was a night to forget for the Scots in Munich, but don’t be too quick to write them off. With the daunting effort of facing the hosts behind them, they could very easily fare better against a Swiss side that is useful but far less threatening.
Our predictions for Scotland vs Switzerland are as follows, with explanations below:
Both Teams to Score @ Evens with bet365
Lawrence Shankland to Score @ 4/1 with bet365

Scotland vs Switzerland head-to-head statistics
This will be the first time that the pair have faced each other since 2006, when Switzerland won by three goals to one.
Since their first meeting in 1957, these two have previously faced each other ten times, with the Scots winning four and the Swiss winning three.
Scotland vs Switzerland preview
This match will be played on 19/06/2024 at RheinEnergieStadion (Cologne). Kick off will be at 20:00 GMT.
The Scots were rather dismal on the opening night of Euro 2024, there can be no getting away from that rather glaring fact.
While I thought the pressure being on the hosts to perform could free the Tartan Army up to make a decent fist of things, they very much did the opposite, shooting themselves in the foot at every opportunity, especially during the first 30 minutes or so.
That’s now a thing of the past, time to dust themselves down and go again. After all, there are two games left, and let’s face their qualifying from Group A was never going to hang on their ability (or lack of) to get a result against the hosts.
The Scots proved in qualifying that they can, when not overawed by the big occasion, play well against decent sides, beating and drawing against Norway, beating Spain and beating a Georgian side that qualified for this tournament, so don’t be too surprised if they deliver a better effort here.
As for the Swiss, it’s probably fair to say that everything went to plan in that first game, as they wrestled control from the Hungarians early on, playing some nice football, scoring two well-crafted goals.
However, in the second half, we saw that there were holes in Murat Yakin’s team at the back, as they failed to keep a clean sheet for the second game in a row. Let’s see how they fare here.
Scotland vs Switzerland Betting tips
Ahead of Scotland vs Switzerland, there are two bets that stand out most as far as my eye (which is all it is) for value is concerned.
Both Teams to Score
There was a huge chunk of luck in Scotland (thanks to an own goal) securing the return on Friday’s ‘Both Teams to Score’ bet, but hey, that’s how it goes. Sniff out the value if you can and let luck play its part.
You’ll get some bad luck and some good luck, but if you’re hunting for and then exploiting what you think are value prices, you’re on the right lines.
In that opening game, this Scotland side, which will now be without a key central defender due to suspension, did little to suggest that they’ll keep it tight against a Swiss attack that clearly isn’t short of quality.
If they change their approach slightly and can avoid bottling it, then they’ve got the players to hurt a side that, let's face it, is decent, but sit below the top rung of teams at this tournament.
Since the beginning of 2023, despite scoring in each, the Swiss have failed to keep a clean sheet against the likes of Israel (x2), Romania (x2), Kosovo (x2), Belarus, Austria and now Hungary. All in all, even-money is worth taking.
Lawrence Shankland to Score
Much like the first bet, I was on Shankland to score against the Germans. I thought he’d chosen for his direct approach and ability on the break, but manager Steve Clarke had other ideas.
I mean, who am I to tell an experienced manager what team to pick, but Shankland should start here, and in the hope that he does, I’m betting on him to score at odds of 4/1 with bet365.
Nobody can deny that Shankland is an accomplished finisher, even if he does ply his trade in the Scottish Premier League.
He comes off the back of an outstanding domestic season, scoring 24 league goals in 37 games, while his goal against Finland in that final warm-up game, tells me he could easily trouble a Swiss back-line that contains several less mobile and veteran-like figures.
Averaging 0.66 goals per 90 minutes last term, Shankland, should he start, looks like a value play to get on the scoresheet at odds of 4/1.
