Rounding Friday’s action off we’ve got the mammoth clash between Netherlands and France. Group D’s big dogs battle it out for supremacy in the city of Leipzig. Will either grab three points and guarantee passage to the knockouts with a game to spare? Read on for our Netherlands vs France predictions.
Netherlands vs France prediction
For the Netherlands vs France match prediction, we believe the final score will be a 2-2 draw based on our analysis.
Neither team covered themselves in a tremendous amount of glory when winning first up, and with the French possibly missing star player Kylian Mbappe through injury, this could be quite an even game, even if both teams can threaten plenty.

Netherlands vs France head-to-head statistics
These two teams are no strangers, let’s face it. They twice played each other in 2023, sharing a qualification group, in which the French came out on top home and away, winning by two goals to one in Amsterdam after winning 4-1 in Paris.
They haven’t met at a major tournament since drawing 0-0 at Euro 1996, before the French won on penalties. Since 2017, France have picked up four wins against the Dutch, who’ve beaten Thursday’s opponents just once during that time (2018).
Netherlands vs France preview
This game is set to be played on 21/06/2024 at Red Bull Arena in Leipzig. Kick off will be at 20:00 GMT.
It wasn’t too glamorous and it was far from convincing, but the Dutch got the job done during the first round of group games, picking up an all-important three points thanks to yet more off-the-bench antics from Wout Weghorst at a major tournament.
They didn’t play badly, they played some nice football, especially in transition, while they created some very promising openings, but as has often been the case with Dutch teams on the big stage, they looked a little open at the back.
Nevertheless, they’ve got three points on the board and should be feeling confident of having a good go against a French side that looked far from secure against the Swiss.
Like the Dutch, Les Bleus did what they needed to first up by coming out on top, though to say that they were convincing winners against the Austrians would be a lie.
They were very fortunate not to be behind when they eventually broke the deadlock through a cross that deflected in, while they were certainly guilty of missing chances to wrap things up.
On top of that, Dider Deschamps men gave the ball away at rather regular intervals, looking a little too open at the back, which doesn’t bode too well ahead of a game against an Oranje side not lacking in pace in the forward areas.
To make matters worse, they may also be without their talismanic captain after Kylian Mbappe was forced off with a broken nose. Whether or not he will start this game remains to be seen.
Netherlands vs France Betting tips
For my money, two bets, both of which favour the Dutch, stand out from a value-betting point of view ahead of this Group D clash.
Netherlands to Score Over 1.5 Goals
Despite what the early betting may suggest, this looks like an excellent opportunity for the Dutch to really kick start their tournament by doing some serious final-third damage.
We saw that the French are willing to come forward and leave rather gaping gaps at the back, which should suit a Dutch team with bags of pace and forward runners down to the ground.
For all they didn’t play well, they notched twice against a Polish team that was far more rigid than the French will be, while they’ve now scored two or more in five of their last six.
Let’s face it, as good as the French are, they’ve not always covered themselves in defensive glory of late. I’d argue that a better attack than Austria’s would’ve profited multiple times in that game on Monday night.
Moreover, Deschamp’s men are not averse to conceding goals on the break, shipping two against Chile, Germany and Greece since late 2023.
All in all, the Dutch can offer a significant forward threat in this game as far as I’m concerned, and I’m just not sure odds of 7/4 (bet365) reflect that enough.
Xavi Simons to Score Or Assist
One more play here comes in the form of ‘Xavi Simons to Score Or Assist’. Like many, I’m a big fan of Simons, who was excellent for Leipzig in Germany last season.
As an RB Leipzig player, the winger/forward has the luxury of playing on home soil here, which is not to be overlooked.
He’s no stranger to performing at Red Bull Arena, where he scored five goals and registered eight assists last season, averaging a very chunky 0.81 goals and assists per home game.
Overall in the Bundesliga last season, Simons produced an average of 0.64 goals and assists per 90 minutes, while in seven Champions League starts, he registered two goals and two assists.
For me, given his rather encouraging numbers and the fact that he’s playing at the home stadium of his current club, odds of 21/10 on him scoring or assisting look very sizable indeed.
