Georgia vs Czech Republic preview
There was lots to like about the way the Georgians went about their business in their first ever European Championships match.
They could very easily have been overawed by the occasion, but that wasn’t the case as the men managed by Willy Sagnol stuck to their task well, played some good stuff and got forward with purpose.
They created chances, scored a well-worked goal through the dangerous Georges Mikautadze, and probably should’ve scored more. All in all, they were far from outplayed by a decent Turkey team, which should hold them in good stead ahead of this fixture.
Much the same can be said for the Czech’s, who despite having the tough task of facing Portugal in their first match, played very well.
Like the Georgians, the Czech’s probably felt a little hard done by with that match-day one defeat. After all, they had the lead with little over 20 minutes on the clock, while they were level in 92 minutes, so to leave the pitch in Leipzig with nothing will have been quite sickening.
However, positives can be taken, that’s for sure, so much so that Ivan Hašek’s men should fancy themselves to do plenty of damage against a Georgian back-line that was quite open in that first game.
Georgia vs Czech Republic Betting tips
Ahead of this intriguing Group F clash, I’ve settled on two bets, both of which look generously priced to my eyes.
Over 3.0 Asian Goals
Having seen each other play during the first round of games, I think both teams will fancy their chances of scoring goals in this game, and rightly so.
The Georgians showed a fantastic willingness to get forward, breaking with purpose whenever a high-pressing Turkey team turned the ball over, and since they created more than enough opportunities to get something from that game, they’re unlikely to take a different approach here.
Despite keeping the ball out of their net until the 69th minute against Portugal, the Czech’s didn’t look too sturdy and in fairness, they didn’t exactly sit back and get 11-men behind the ball, which bodes well for those wanting this to be an open and ultimately high-scoring game, much as I do.
Moreover, this is a Czech Republic side that rarely shies away from a high-scoring game, with them scoring and conceding in each of their last five, and with each of their last six containing at least three goals.
Five of Georgia’s last seven (against half-notable opponents) have produced at least four goals, so don’t be surprised if the Euro first-timers are once again involved in an action-packed encounter.
Georges Mikautadze to Score
I was on Mikautadze to score ahead of that first game at a very chunky-looking 4/1 and he duly delivered the goods, applying a deft finish to a timely pull back around eight yards from goal.
To be honest, off the back of what was a very encouraging performance, I think the Metz forward is once again overpriced.
As far as I’m concerned, 10/3 does not accurately reflect the threat that the 23-year-old carries, while we’ve seen that his team can create chances for him.
Like I said before that first game, this is a man who knows how to get into scoring positions and he absolutely knows how to get the ball in the net, scoring three in his last three appearances for club and country, averaging 0.67 goals per 90 minutes in Ligue 1 last season.
