Two teams vying for Group F supremacy will clash at the Iconic Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund on Saturday. Can either make it two from two and book their place in the knockouts nice and early? Read on for our Turkey vs Portugal predictions.

Turkey vs Portugal prediction

For the Turkey vs Portugal match prediction, we believe the final score will be a 4-2 win for Portugal based on our analysis.

This game has the potential to be very high-scoring. The Turks showed that they’re not in Germany to sit back and we know that they’ve got plenty of dangerous players in their ranks, though do they have the defensive nous to hold strong against a high-class Portugal attack? Probably not.

Turkey vs Portugal head-to-head statistics

The pair last met back in 2021, when Portugal won by three goals to one on home soil, nine years after the previous meeting, which saw the Turks win by three goals to one in Lisbon.

This will be the eighth renewal of this fixture, with Portugal winning six of the previous seven.

Turkey vs Portugal preview

This match is due to take place on 22/06/2024 at Signal Iduna Park (Dortmund). Kick off will be at 17:00 GMT.

Despite facing a Georgian side that has never previously featured at a major tournament, the Turks were made to work hard for their match-day one win.

After a positive and forward-thinking start, they took the lead mid-way through the first half thanks to a superbly struck volley from right-back Mert Muldur, while they very nearly doubled their lead just a minute later, before Kenan Yildiz was ruled out for offside thanks to intervention of offside.

Five minutes on and the Georgians were back in business, scoring a well crafted goal, though Turkey continued to come forward and continue to threaten, going close several times after the break, before Real Madrid wonderkid Arda Guler found the top corner from range with a fine strike.

They then withstood some pressure, before adding a third on the break right at the death. Sure, they didn’t exactly defend amazingly well in that game, but they looked very creative in possession, while I was impressed with the variety in which they attacked, threatening through various channels.

The Portuguese got the job done on match-day one, but not without a serious scare. With Bruno Fernandes and Bernardo Silva seemingly focused on feeding veteran Cristiano Ronaldo at all times during an underwhelming first half, they struggled to get seriously creative, while they endured a few rocky moments at the back.

Those rocky moments finally told when Lukáš Provod fired in from the edge of the box after an hour.

It wasn’t long before Portugal were level and then the onslaught began as the men in red and green shifted through the gears, creating more and more, before super-sub Francisco Conceicao grabbed the winner in injury time just minutes after coming on.

We know that this Portugal side has lots of quality, especially in the final third, so it’s likely that they still have lots more to offer, but that first game showed that they can be got at, which should fill a decent-looking Turkish attack with hope.

Turkey vs Portugal Betting tips

Just the one bet stands out at the early prices and that’s a bet that favours the Turks. Here goes.

Turkey to Score Over 1.5 Goals

The Portuguese are once again quite hotly fancied in the early betting, but as we’ve seen already at this tournament, things don’t always pan out as they “should”.

As far as I’m concerned, the value lies with betting on Turkish goals in this game. Sure, they faced only the Georgians, who entered the tournament as complete European Championship novices and rank outsiders, but I liked the way in which the Turks went about their business in that first game.

There’s little reason why they cannot hurt a Portuguese side that looked a little too open against the Czech’s for my liking.

After all, this is a Portuguese team, despite having loads of offensive quality, that has kept just one clean sheet (against Republic of Ireland) in the last six games.

In their last six games, the men now (somehow) managed by Roberto Martinez - who did such a superb job of managing Belgium’s golden generation (oh wait) - have conceded at least twice on four occasions, surrendering multiple goals to Sweden, Slovenia, Finland and Croatia.

This Turkish team also has a recent history of thriving on the break against big teams, scoring not one, not twice, but thrice against the Germans back in late 2023.

All in all, there’s plenty to suggest that a price of 11/4 on the Turks scoring at least two goals in this fixture, even if they don't come out on top, is a little generous. I’m snapping such odds up, are you?
