After two hugely underwhelming efforts, the English are back in action on Tuesday. They take on a defiant Slovenian side that is yet to lose in Germany, so sailing through to the knockouts with an easy win may not be on the cards for the Three Lions. Read on for our England vs Slovenia predictions.
England vs Slovenia prediction
For the England vs Slovenia match prediction, we believe the final score will be a 1-1 draw based on our analysis.
The Three Lions have made it quite clear, both with their performances and their interactions with the media, that they’re all about getting through the groups without taking many risks, so should we expect fireworks here? Probably not, especially when a draw would leave Southgate’s men at the top of Group C.

England vs Slovenia head-to-head statistics
England and Slovenia have previously met on six occasions. In five of those, the Three Lions have come out on top, including when the pair last met back in 2017 (1-0).
England vs Slovenia preview
This match will be played on 25/06/2024 at RheinEnergieStadion (Cologne). Kick off will be at 20:00 GMT.
After frustrating many of their fans with a languid and less than impressive performance against the Serbs on match-day one, winning by the narrowest of margins in far from convincing style, the Three Lions once again dished out a healthy dose of disappointment against the Danes.
Despite being heavy favourites and despite having a squad full of big-name players, who play for some of the biggest and best clubs on the planet, the English once again struggled to deliver the goods, taking the lead through Harry Kane, before reverting to being outplayed by their opponents.
To be honest, the men managed by Gareth Southgate, who definitely eats half of a two-finger KitKat before putting the other half in the fridge for another day, were lucky to come away with a point. They're now all but through, but have they built the momentum necessary to take on the big boys with confidence? Absolutely not.
For the Slovenians, sitting on four points after two matches seemed a distinct possibility when full back Zan Karnicnik put them ahead after 69 minutes on match-day two, but Serbia's Luka Jovic had other ideas, nodding home from close range in the final minute of the match.
After conceding with what was essentially the final kick of the match last time out, the Slovenians enter this third and final Group C fixture with two points, but all is far from lost, if they can get something here, which based on both their own relatively encouraging efforts and England's rather poor form, is far from out of the question, they could easily advance.
England vs Slovenia Betting tips
At the time of writing, there are three bets, both of which focus on England’s opponents that appeal at the available odds. Let’s get stuck in.
Slovenia to Score Over 0.5 Goals
Let’s be honest, the Three Lions have looked shaky at the back in Germany, while they’ve also given the ball away plenty, and in good areas, so it would be remiss of us to assume that they’ll get through this game without coming under serious pressure defensively.
Moreover, the Slovenians, who’ve scored in both of their games so far, have shown more than enough, both in terms of intent and quality, to suggest that they’ve got a slightly better chance of getting on the score-sheet than the early prices would have us believe.
Benjamin Sesko Over 0.5 Shots on Target
I don’t care that the Slovenians are up against the English, who somehow remain one of the favourites to win the competition, 11/8 on a forward as capable and as dangerous as Benjamin Sesko, is a joke price, one that I intend to take full advantage of.
Sesko has reportedly been carrying an injury niggle, but I’ll be stunned if he’s not on the pitch when this one kicks off. He’s vital to the way this Slovenia side plays offensively, while the threat that he offers up top, both physically and technically, cannot easily be replicated.
The 21-year-old forward is yet to complete a season at club level where he doesn’t average considerably over one shot on target per game, averaging 1.47 shots on target per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga last season.
Having worked the keeper against Serbia last time out, I’m betting that Sesko repeats the trick here, and I’m doing so at what can only be described as generous odds.
Petar Stojanovic Over 0.5 Assists
Though by no means as sweet on this as the above, I also cannot help but think that Petar Stojanovic is a little sizably priced to register an assist.
The Sampdoria wide midfielder is no stranger to registering an assist, setting up a goal for his club side every five games last season, while he seems to raise his creative game when it comes to playing for Slovenia.
Stojanovic has registered seven assists in his last 24 appearances for Slovenia, which isn’t bad going at all. Such a contribution makes odds of 12/1 look rather chunky.
Recap - England vs Slovenia betting tips

Petar Stojanovic over 0.5 Assists @ 12/1 with bet365
