Having impressed during the groups, especially when beating the Dutch to secure top spot in Group D, the Austrians will now face the Turks in Leipzig. Can they continue to impress? Or will they be sent packing? Read on for our free Austria vs Turkey predictions.

Austria vs Turkey prediction

For the Austria vs Turkey match prediction, we believe the final score will be a 2-0 win for Austria based on our analysis.

We’ve seen that the Turks can cause teams a few problems, but they’ll be without captain and key man Hakan Calhanoglu here, which means that they carry much less of a threat, so don’t be surprised to see them come up short against a strong Austrian team.

Austria vs Turkey head-to-head statistics

This will be the second time that the pair have met in 2024. Back in March, the Austrians ran riot against the Turks, winning a friendly by six goals to one.

The Austrians have won two of the last three renewals of this fixture, but the Turks have won five out of nine since 1989. This will be the first ever meeting between the two at a major international tournament.

Austria vs Turkey preview

This match will be played on 02/07/2024 at Red Bull Arena in Leipzig. Kick off will be at 20:00 GMT.

When they lost to France on match-day one, despite playing well and creating plenty of promising openings, the Austrians had plenty to do to get their Euro 2024 campaign back on track, but that certainly did that alright.

After that loss to Les Bleus, Ralf Rangnick’s men beat Poland in rather convincing fashion, winning by three goals to one, while they once again looked like a team that means business when beating the Dutch by three goals to two on match-day three, doing enough to win the group.

This is an Austrian team that has lots of experienced campaigners, while they’ve got plenty of bite in them too. Throw in the clever and crafty play of Christoph Baumgartner and Marcel Sabitzer and we’re talking about a team that can go toe-to-toe with anyone. Discount the Austrian at your peril, that’s what I say.

After beating the Georgians on match-day one, the Turks went off the boil in rather dramatic fashion against Portugal, losing without ever really landing a glove on the 2016 winners of this tournament.

Thankfully, Vincenzo Montella’s men got back on the up against the Czech’s last time out, taking the lead through their talismanic Hakan Calhanoglu, who scored with a typically astute finish.

Unfortunately, the captain got himself booked in that game and thus missed this huge clash, which is a massive blow for Montella and his team. They’re not exactly a one-man team, but Calhanaglu is their creator-in-chief, there’s no doubt about that, so it will be interesting to see how creative the Turks can be in his absence.

Austria vs Turkey Betting tips

There are two betting angles worth exploring as the Austrians and the Turks go head-to-head in Leipzig.

Marcel Sabitzer to Score

Marcel Sabitzer has been one of Austria’s shining lights at this tournament, there’s no doubt about that and after some fine performances in a much more advanced role than we ever saw him occupy in the Premier League, the captain duly got his goal last time out.

After that fine finish against the Dutch, Sabitzer will undoubtedly be hungry for more, and it’s certainly not like he's failed to get involved offensively at this tournament.

As a key part of Austria’s attack, Sabitzer scored four goals in seven qualifying games, while he’s averaging 0.33 goals per 90 minutes at Euro 2024 so far.

Moreover, he’s taken no less than nine shots in three games. That tells me that he’s keen to be the man to get the ball in the net for his team, which helps me to conclude that 3/1 is just a tad on the large side here.

Florian Grillitsch Over 0.5 Shots on Target

I’m also a fan of the slightly deeper lying Florian Grillitsch to register a shot on target against the Turks.

Far from a prolific goalscorer, Grillitsch who seldom scores at club level, is another example of playing doing more in an offensive sense for his nation.

In qualifying, Grillitsch took an average of 1.76 shots per game for Austria, registering 0.88 shots on target per fixture. If we throw in that he’s averaging 1.62 shots at the Euros, betting on the midfielder to hit the target just once in this fixture starts to make plenty of appeal at the odds available.

Recap - Austria vs Turkey betting tips

To recap, the two recommended bets ahead of this Euro 2024 knockout clash are:

Marcel Sabitzer to Score @ 3/1 with bet365

Florian Grillitsch Over 0.5 Shots on Target @ 2/1 with bet365
