Having somehow made it beyond the test of Slovakia in massively unconvincing fashion, the Three Lions will get down to business in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 on Saturday evening.

Can Southgate’s men get the better of what looks to be a very sturdy Swiss team? Read on for our England vs Switzerland predictions.

England vs Switzerland prediction

For the England vs Switzerland match prediction, we believe the final score will be a 2-1 win for Switzerland based on our analysis.

The Swiss did a fine job of nullifying and overpowering an Italian side that looked about as inspiring as this rather weak English bunch, so it would be anything but surprising to see the apparent underdogs spring a surprise here.

Our predictions for the England vs Switzerland match are as follows:

England vs Switzerland betting odds

Looking at the early betting, the English have a 45.5% implied chance of winning this game in normal time, while the Swiss win carried an implied probability of 26.7%.

England vs Switzerland head-to-head statistics

These two teams met as recently as 2022, when England won by two goals to one in a friendly at Wembley.

Interestingly, Switzerland hasn't beaten England since 1981. Since then, the English have picked up seven wins against the Swiss.

England vs Switzerland preview

This match will be played on 06/07/2024 at Merkur Spiel-Arena in Dusseldorf. Kick off will be at 17:00 GMT.

Somehow, and certainly not by having a fine game-play that was well executed, or by playing anywhere near well, the Three Lions got the job done against Slovakia, scoring with what was virtually the final kick of the game to force extra time, during which they edged ahead and came out on top.

Nothing about that win over Slovakia was convincing, which has been the theme in Germany as far as the English are concerned.

Despite having what are regularly described as big-name players, many of whom are talked about week in, week out during the domestic season as some of the finest footballers on the planet, the England team has struggled to stamp its authority on games.

After lacking in both creativity and end-product in Germany, the Three Lions appear to have quite a tough task on their hands here.

As for the Swiss, well, they certainly didn’t disappoint their fans during the first knockout round, delivering a positive and highly convincing win against the Italians, performing well at both ends of the pitch.

Not only were the Swiss strong against the Italians, who realistically, they blew out of the water with some very decisive football, but they were a match for the Germans during the group stages, drawing 1-1 and showing plenty of fight.

Murat Yakin’s men have defensive quality, experience in abundance, while they’ve got some cracking forward players, all of whom play with an intensity that we’re yet to see from the English, so nobody should be surprise if they turn out to have too much for this lacklustre and complacent-looking England team.

England vs Switzerland Betting tips

Based on what appear to be slightly generous early odds, I’m going for three bets ahead of this clash. Let’s dive in.

Switzerland to Score Over 1.5 Goals

At the early prices, I certainly wouldn’t put anybody off betting on the Swiss to win this game, but for my money, the better angle of attack is to take Murat Yakin’s men to score at least two goals.

This is a Switzerland team that is capable of creating against deep-lying opponents, as we saw against both Scotland and Hungary, but they’re also very effective on the break, with the pace and direct running of both Ruben Vargas and Dan Ndoye. Such players caused lots of problems for both the Germans and the Italians.

We’re yet to see England concede two goals at this tournament, but they’ve looked far from defensively strong, while they’ve absolutely looked vulnerable on the break, which could be a big problem against this Switzerland team.

Moreover, the Danes did enough to score twice against Southgate’s rather weak back-line, which will now be without a Marc Guehi, who doesn’t appear to be easily replaceable.

Dan Ndoye to Score or Assist

Dan Ndoye has not only been one of Switzerland’s brightest lights at this tournament, but he’s been one of standout players of the whole tournament.

The Bologna winger/forward, with his powerful and direct play, has got forward with purpose, looking to create and fire off shots on a regular basis.

Given what we’ve seen from him so far, I’m very surprised that he’s available at odds of 15/4 to score a goal or register an assist.

Let’s face it, this is a player who has not only scored at this tournament, but who has fired off 13 shots, averaging 3.77 per game, while he also averages 0.49 expected goals and assisted goals combined. Such stats make the current odds hard to turn down in my opinion.

Jude Bellingham to be Booked

One final play focuses on England’s saviour in that last game, even if he then turned a few fans off with his post-game comments.

Bellingham is clearly a player with a bright future and he’s clearly a talent. However, we’ve seen the Real Madrid man bubble over with frustration a few times in Germany.

He’s struggled to make the desired impact, at least for prolonged spells, and he’s had no trouble in displaying his anger by making some rather reckless challenges, earning himself a yellow card against the Slovakians last time out.

At the end of the day, should the Swiss succeed in making this tough for the English, it would be a big surprise if Bellingham didn’t start crashing into challenges, while he’s far from averse to displaying his displeasure vocally, making him a strong candidate for a booking than the early odds suggest as far as I’m concerned.

Recap - England vs Switzerland betting tips

To recap, here are the three bets for England vs Switzerland:

Switzerland to Score Over 1.5 Goals @ 3/1 with bet365

Dan Ndoye to Score or Assist @ 15/4 with bet365

Jude Bellingham to be Booked @ 11/2 with bet365
