The Black Cats improved on what was a decent first-game effort to beat Sheffield Wednesday last week, but this is a much tougher task, one that they may not be fully equipped for, so don’t be surprised to see the hosts come up short.

Sunderland vs Burnley preview
This match will be played on 24/08/2024 at Stadium of Light. Kick off will be at 15:00 GMT.
It’s early days, let’s be honest, but it’s been promising from Sunderland at the start of this new campaign. They got their season up and running at the first time of asking with that away win over Cardiff, before going on to thrash Sheffield Wednesday at home last weekend, keeping a clean sheet in the process.
The men managed by Régis Le Bris have scored six goals in two league games, conceding none. They did whimper out of the EFL Cup, losing to Preston, but I doubt they’ll care about that, not after such a positive Championship start. The task now is to keep moving in the right direction.
The visitors have also started strongly. Scott Parker’s promotion hopefuls came flying out of the traps at Kenilworth Road on the opening weekend, beating Luton by four goals to two.
That away win paved the way for an even better effort last weekend, as the Clarets shifted through the gears to beat Cardiff in incredibly resounding fashion, scoring five goals and conceding none in the process.
Given what we’ve seen from Burnley over the first couple of games, it’s easy to feel that they’ll enjoy themselves in the North East on Saturday.
Sunderland vs Burnley Betting tips
Two bets catch the eye ahead of Sunderland vs Burnley, these are:
Burnley to Win
Sunderland’s first couple of league efforts aren’t easy to knock, but the Clarets have looked even stronger, so much so that they really should be a bit shorter in the pre-match betting.
Scott Parker’s men have got quality all over the pitch, while they’ve got a real abundance of creativity and offensive power. Given that they’ve battered both Luton and Cardiff, it’s not difficult to think that Saturday’s visitors will simply overpower lots of Championship teams this season.
While the Black Cats beat Cardiff in astute counter-attacking fashion, Burnley simply walked all over the Bluebirds, creating a far more commanding impression. That’s not easy to ignore.
Another Clarets win looks on the horizon and odds of 11/8, which may not be around by the time this one kicks off, are worth taking.
Zeki Amdouni to Score
Swiss forward/winger Zeki Amdouni has only featured briefly so far this season, but after returning to the fold by scoring off the bench last weekend, in fine style, Burnley’s main man should now be ready to rock and roll.
Amdouni is going to be crucial for Burnley this season. His guile and creativity, not to mention his ability to score goals with acts of individual brilliance, could be what gets the Clarets over the line in terms of promotion.
At odds of 9/4, he’s hard to resist from a goal-scoring point of view here. Having scored as a sub last weekend, Amdouni, who averaged 2.21 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League last season, will likely be hungry for more.
