On Saturday afternoon, a newly promoted Southampton team will be looking to collect points for the first time this season when taking on Brentford away from home.
The Bees will be looking to bounce back after tasting defeat at Anfield last weekend, but can they sting the Saints? Read on for our Brentford vs Southampton predictions.
Brentford vs Southampton prediction
For the Brentford vs Southampton match prediction, we believe the final score will be a 3-1 win for Brentford based on our analysis.
The Bees haven’t looked amazingly sharp at the back so far, so this could be a good chance for the Saints to score their first goal of the season, but on all available evidence, the hosts look set to overpower a visiting team that looks off the pace at this level.
Our predictions and tips for Brentford and Southampton are as follows:
Yoanne Wissa to be Booked @ 5/1 with bet365
Ben Brereton Diaz to Score Or Assist @ 15/8 with bet365

Brentford vs Southampton head-to-head statistics
When the pair last met, during the 2022/2023 Premier League Season, Brentford won by two goals to nil on the south coast, having won 3-0 at home earlier in the campaign. The Bees have now won each of their last three games against the Saints.
Brentford vs Southampton preview
This match will be played on 31/08/2024 at Brentford Community Stadium. Kick off will be at 15:00 GMT.
At Anfield last weekend, the Bees couldn’t quite sting like they did when downing the Eagles during the opening weekend, but there were definitely moments of promise.
Thomas Frank’s men enjoyed some nearly fruitful attacks, while they certainly weren’t disgraced at what is arguably the hardest Premier League venue to visit.
With that effort under their belt, having beaten Palace first time out, the Bees will strongly fancy themselves to get back to winning ways here against a newly promoted team that has certainly felt the pinch early doors.
Having lost each of their first two games, failing to score in both, it’s fair to say that the Saints are yet to get going since returning to the Premier League.
Russell Martin’s men weren’t disgraced in that first game, but they played against ten men for most of the contest and failed to make that pay, which is a little bit worrying, as was their effort at home to Nottingham Forest last weekend.
To be honest, home matches such as the one against Forest last weekend are the games that will decide Southampton’s fate this season. Win enough of those and they’ve got a fighting chance of staying up, but they’ll need to do better than they did last weekend, especially offensively.
Brentford vs Southampton Betting tips
To my value-seeking eyes, two player bets appeal most ahead of this clash:
Yoanne Wissa to be Booked
Brentford forward Yoanne Wissa enjoyed himself on the opening weekend, picking up a goal and an assist as the Bees stung Palace, while he delivered another lively effort at Anfield last weekend.
Wissa will likely be a threatening player for Brentford once again this season and he should score his fair share of goals, though he may also pick up his share of cards.
Last season, only one player made more fouls for Brentford than Wissa in the Premier League, with the DR Congo forward’s tenacious and overzealous approach often getting him in trouble.
Wissa committed 38 fouls last term, averaging 1.37 per 90. He was no stranger to going in the book either, picking up seven yellow cards, averaging 0.25 per 90.
If we take 0.25 as one booking every four games, we can say that Wissa was booked 25% of the time. Translate 25% into odds and we get 3/1, thus making the available price of 5/1 seem quite chunky indeed.
Ben Brereton Diaz to Score Or Assist
I’m also going to side with one of the visiting forwards to make a tangible contribution here.
Ben Brereton Diaz couldn’t help Sheffield United to stay up last season, but his individual efforts after joining in January, were promising, with the Chile international scoring and assisting seven times in 14 appearances. Not bad at all.
This time around, it looks like the 27-year-old is going to have another relegation scrap on his hands, but he’ll likely make positive contributions along the way, even if the Saints fail to survive.
Given his average of 0.57 goals and assists per 90 minutes for what was a rather dreadful Sheffield United team last term, odds of 15/8 on him scoring or assisting against Brentford side that hasn’t looked amazingly sturdy at the back during the early weeks, are worth taking.
