For today’s only horse racing selection, we play the waiting game as we’re off to Kempton, where in the final race of the evening, a Class 5 contest over seven furlongs, Havana Touch looks to have a nice opportunity.
Following a promising effort over course and distance last time out, the mount of Darragh Keegan ran well (after an 82-day break), taking a close-up second.
In that race, John Butler’s runner, who pulled clear of the rest, was narrowly beaten by a horse that has since gone on to run in a better race than this. Such an effort suggests that he ought to be capable of taking a prize of this nature before long.
Sure, he’s gone up 4 lbs for that recent C&D effort, but with that run likely to have blown away the cobwebs following a lack of racing, it would be little surprise if the lightly-raced and yet-to-be-fully exposed gelding took such a rise in his stride.
It bodes well that his effort on the clock over C&D a month ago rates as the top speed effort in this field, while his trainer knows how to ready one for Kempton, that’s for sure.
Moreover, Darragh Keenan has been in fine form in the saddle of late, so such a booking goes down as another positive.
This is far from the deepest Class 5, while the likely pace, presumably set by Star Mind, should suit too. Frankly, the three-year-old ticks enough boxes to be a sturdier favourite than he currently is, meaning that odds of 5/1 are worth taking.
