A quick glance at the 17:40 at Newbury on Thursday will tell you that this is The Glen Rovers race to lose, but is that one plenty short enough at odds of 5/4? Absolutely.
The unexposed Lucy Wadham horse arrives here off the back of a win on handicap debut last time out, but he wasn’t overly convincing, while this is tougher, so for my money, he’s far too short.
That runner being a hot early favourite has seemingly allowed a couple of the others to slip under the radar, such as Bletchley Storm, who at 14/1, catches the eye as a more than viable each-way bet.
The George Baker filly failed to really get involved at Goodwood last time out, but she likely wants a longer trip than that, so today’s step back up in distance bodes well.
What really stands out with the mount of Jim Crowley is her recent third at Sandown. Over one mile and two furlongs, running on well, she finished third in a better race than this, generating the best speed rating on offer in this field in the process.
There should be a decent pace on here, with several who like to jump forward, which ought to aid Bletchley Park’s closing style.
It’s also positive to note that she has plenty of form on soft and good-to-soft ground, so the forecast rain isn’t likely to hinder the four-year-old’s claim, which is not something that can be said for all of these.
All in all, we’re talking about a horse who ticks more than enough boxes to be quite a bit shorter, as the table above suggests, so taking odds of 14/1 (each-way) goes down as a value move.
