Following what was quite a tame exit from the European Championships, going out in the first knockout round having failed to win a single group game, the Danes got back down to business in the Nations League on Thursday night and it was a promising start to the campaign.

In front of a home crowd, against an ill-disciplined Swiss team, Lars Knudsen’s men got the job done, scoring twice after half-time, first through Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu, before captain and ex-Spurs midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg sealed the deal in stoppage time.

For the Serbs, who also underwhelmed at Euro 2024, an uphill task was served by those deciding the UEFA Nations League fixtures.

A home match against the recently crowned European champions was not going to be easy, and it certainly wasn’t, but the man managed by Dragan Stojković dug deep and frustrated from beginning to end, grinding out an admirable 0-0 draw. Can they now kick on away from the comforts of home?

I’m keeping my powder relatively dry here, placing just one player bet. Here goes.

Sasa Lukic to be Booked

A player who regularly tests the patience of referees, Sasa Lukic could quite easily and probably should be the favourite to pick up a yellow card in this game.

While the Serbian midfielder is not the most likely in the betting, he looks a decent bet at odds of 5/2. Let’s face it, in qualifying for the European Championships, Lukic made 10 fouls, averaging 2.38 per game, while he was booked at the finals in Germany, averaging 0.43 yellow per 90 minutes.

He’s already picked up a yellow for Fulham this season, while in 2024, the 28-year-old averages 0.34 cards per game for his nation.

On the premise that an average of 0.33 would translate to getting booked 33% of the time, which translates to odds of 2/1, odds of 5/2 look a little generous.
