The racing action in Britain and Ireland on Friday afternoon and evening is plentiful, with six meetings - at Ascot, Bangor-On-Dee, Haydock, Kempton, Down Royal and Kilbeggan - for punters to get stuck into.

After yesterday’s 14/1 winner, we’re back at it searching for some value ahead of Friday’s action.

17:20 Ascot - Jimmy Speaking (each-way)

For my money, Jimmy Speaking is a little generously priced ahead of the final race at Ascot this afternoon, a seven-furlong handicap of the Class 4 variety.

A course winner when staying on powerfully despite hanging right over six furlongs back in May, the three-year-old remains lightly raced and he certainly continues to be with potential.

There was lots to like about his second over six furlongs at Windsor when last seen, that’s for sure. Being a Class 3 contest, that race was better than this in terms of quality in depth, while I’d also argue that he looked the type to want further that day, so this step up to seven furlongs ought to be seen as a positive.

Top of the pile for speed ratings, the mount of Callum Shepherd ran well on soft ground as a two-year-old, so today’s underfoot conditions shouldn’t be an issue, while the break of 81 days may have freshened him up. After all, he won well after a longer absence back in April, so I wouldn’t worry too much about the recent lack of action.

Given what we’ve seen from him so far, a mark of 82 looks workable, while this is far from the deepest contest in the world, so don’t be surprised if he goes a little closer than odds of 11/1 suggest. Such odds offer each-way value.
