As is often the case on Saturday’s, there’s no shortage of racing in Britain and Ireland today, with no fewer than seven cards - at Ascot, Haydock, Kempton, Stratford, Thirsk, Wolverhampton and Navan - to keep bettors busy.

The table below shows today’s tips, where they run, when they run, the odds available, complete with our adjusted fair odds.
Horse | Track | Time | Odds | Fair Odds | Value |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Leadenhall | Haydock | 14:40 | 8/1 (bet365) | 6/1 | +3.2% |
Haymaker | Ascot | 17:05 | 11/2 (Betfred) | 7/2 | +6.8% |
16:40 Haydock - Leadenhall (each-way)
At Haydock this afternoon, ahead of the 16:40, I’m quite drawn to Leadenhall, who looks well weighted here and ought to appreciate the expected rainfall.
The mount of Jim Crowley definitely wanted the step back up to a mile last time out, but what he didn’t really want was the fast ground, so don’t be surprised if he builds on that effort with today’s softer underfoot conditions.
His good-to-soft effort at York (seven furlongs) earlier this season is very eye-catching, as he stayed on well, doing so in Class 3 company. This extra furlong is perfect for him on that basis, while the slightly less demanding nature of this race is also a positive.
A previous C&D winner, the four-year-old rarely runs a bad race when the ground hits the soft side of good, while he’s back down to what looks like a very workable mark of 74, leaving him near the foot of the weights here.
With four places on offer and plenty seemingly in favour, the mount of Jim Crowley rates as a very nice each-way bet at odds of 8/1.
17:05 Ascot - Haymaker to Win
Saturday’s final race at Ascot is also an eye-catcher, chiefly because this may just be the opportunity that Haymaker needs to return to the winner’s enclosure.
The Hughie Morrison runner will arrive at the start of this contest off the back of a relatively modest effort over further at Windsor, but if we look back over his recent form, we can see that he ran a blinder to finish a close-up third (of 17) over course and distance back in July.
A repeat of that recent C&D run here would make him hard to beat, while it’s not as if he’s without soft-ground form at Ascot either.
High on the speed list, courtesy of that recent C&D effort, the five-year-old also comes into this race for a trainer who has had his string in fine form of late, while Billy Loughnane is never a bad booking in the saddle, let’s be honest.
Ultimately, in what is a depleted field thanks to several withdrawals (presumably thanks to the ground), Haymaker has a profile strong enough to make him favourite, so while he’s not, betting on him to get the job done offers a slice of value for money.
