15:05 Fontwell - Guivinec to Win
On Sunday afternoon, we’re off to Fontwell, where the 15:05 is the race to focus on. The early betting ahead of this contest points towards Invictus Allen having a big chance, and that one may well prove hard to beat following his recent win.
However, the Christian Williams runner has a 6 lb-rise to contend with, meaning that he’ll have to give away plenty of weight here, which could leave him a little vulnerable to a couple of the better handicapped types.
One of those is absolutely Guivinec, who must be on workable mark as he sits on a handicap rating of 75.
Anthony Honeyball’s runner has lots of positive course form, while he didn’t seem to be inconvenienced by the step up to this more marathon-type trip at Newton Abbot last time out.
In that Newton Abbot contest, he finished fourth, doing so in a race that contained much more strength in depth than this.
Back in the spring, the gelding also ran credibly at Fontwell, not one but twice, placing over a lesser trip, but doing so in races that contained much more depth than this contest, which we shouldn’t ignore.
The trainer has found some form with his runners of late, while he’s no stranger to saddling a winner at Fontwell, operating with a very promising strike rate of 24.24% in the last 12 months.
The gelding also rates right up there on speed ratings and has arguably been the most consistent runner of this bunch in that sense, which again, shouldn’t be ignored too quickly.
For my money, ahead of what is a weak contest, this proven course performer ticks more than enough boxes for early odds of 5/1 to be considered a little generous. Thus betting on him to come home in front offers us a slice of value.
