In search of more value, we move on to today’s racing, which comes to us from Carlisle, Lingfield and Worcester in Britain, while there’s a meeting at Cork in Ireland as well.

Ahead of the meeting at Carlisle this afternoon, I’m struggling to see why Lotus Rose is available at odds of 8/1. For my money, the mare should be shorter in the market, and here’s why:
For starters, this is a well handicapped horse, one who has dropped to an extremely attractive handicap mark, one who rarely runs poorly on soft ground.
If we look at her previous soft-ground efforts over today’s trip of five-furlongs, we can see that she has one win and two places to her name from seven runs, finishing fourth and fifth also.
Narrowing it down further to soft-ground races over five furlongs, where she ran from a mark under 70 (currently rated 57), she has a 100% win record.
Looking at her recent run at Chester, where she finished fourth in a Class 5 contest, she really should be taken seriously ahead of this Class 6 contest.
When the mare last ran at this level, three runs ago at Beverley in July, she finished a close-up third (of 12), running on ground that was quicker than she preferred. Now on soft ground at this level, she could very easily make her presence felt even more.
Quite simply, the mount of Jonny Peate, who takes off a handy 3 lbs here, ticks a few too many boxes for 8/1 to not be classed as a user-friendly price. Such odds should definitely be taken by those seeking value for money.
