Thursday’s horse racing includes the start of the prestigious St. Leger meeting at Doncaster, where there is some high-quality racing, that’s for sure.
However, Doncaster isn’t the only venue to focus on today, with two other British meetings scheduled at Epsom Downs and Newcastle. From a betting point of view, we’re interested in the all-weather meeting at Newcastle this evening.

19:30 Newcastle - Whatwouldyouknow (each-way)
At Newcastle this evening, the well-handicapped Whatwouldyouknow may just have a better opportunity to get seriously involved than early odds of 22/1 would have us believe.
This horse is no stranger to performing well over course and distance, while it must be said that he’s well handicapped.
OK, he didn’t fire last time out, but I’m not too worried about that as he returns to a venue that he likes and again, he’s lurking on such a dangerous mark, that it likely won’t be long before he comes good.
Three runs back, he finished third over this trip at Carlisle, generating a speed figure that would certainly be good enough to get heavily involved in this.
Three times a Class 6 winner over C&D, the mount of Faye McManoman has won two and finished close-up (in big fields) in two out four runs over course and distance when running from a sub-60 handicap mark. He’s now rated 54, which is lower than each of his previous C&D wins. Don’t sleep on this one, that’s what I say.
20:00 Newcastle - La Boo (each-way)
Half an hour later at the same venue, La Boo is another horse that looks a little generously priced.
Still relatively lightly raced, the filly didn’t show much at Catterick last time out, but she wasn’t beaten by that far, while this is an easier contest.
Over this trip at Redcar in June, she got involved, finishing fourth (of 10), beaten just over a length by a 66-rated winner, which is decent form in relation to this slightly less demanding race.
If we look back to January, we can see that she also finished third at Newcastle (over C&D). Both the winner and the runner-up from that contest went on to rate much better than this level, so such form should not be ignored.
Top of the pile for career-best speed figures, I just cannot ignore the Mick Easterby runner all the time odds of 14/1 are available. Such odds offer clear each-way value.
