Often the highlight of the week for racing fans, this Saturday is a big one as the prestigious St. Leger takes place at Doncaster.
From a betting point of view, I’m not overly taken by that race, though that doesn’t mean that there aren’t races to get stuck into today, with action coming our way from Bath, Chester, Doncaster, Lingfield and Musselburgh, plus a very strong card at Leopardstown in Ireland.

Ahead of the final race at Doncaster on St. Leger day, Bopedro catches the eye as a horse that is somewhat generously priced in the early betting.
This race is competitive, make no mistake about that. However, David O’Meara’s type really does have plenty going for him here, perhaps more so than the early odds suggest.
Very much a sleeper, there’s another decent handicap prize in this horse as far as I’m concerned. He’s lurking 5 lbs below his last winning mark, which bodes well given that he’s coming into the time of year where he usually strikes.
Between late August and early October, the eight-year-old has either won or placed in each of the last four years.
He’s been lightly raced this summer, and he hasn’t shown too much when we have seen him, though I think that he gave us enough when finishing fifth (of 16) over this trip at Goodwood in August to believe he can get seriously involved here.
Now lower in the weights than both of his handicap wins of this type, the mount of Danny Tudhope should get a decent pace to aim at here, which will aid his cause, while it must be said that O’Meara, who has had his string in fine form of late, does well at Doncaster, boasting a 17.31% strike rate at the Yorkshire track in the last year.
For my money, as far as each-way bets go, there are few better options than Bopedro at chunky odds of 16/1 this Saturday.
