It’s another busy Saturday in the world of British horse racing, with meetings all over the country, including the prestigious and popular Gold Cup meeting at Ayr.
As well as that excellent card at the Scottish venue, there’s action at Chester, Newbury, Newmarket, Gowran Park and Navan in Ireland, plus an evening meeting at Wolverhampton, which is where today’s tip runs. Let’s get stuck in.

20:00 Wolverhampton - Impeach (each-way)
We’ll be playing the waiting game on Saturday, with the penultimate race at Wolverhampton appealing as a handicap to attack.
The horse we’re getting on the offensive with here is Impeach, who for my money, is generously priced at odds of 10/1.
The Michael Attwater runner wasn’t seen to best effect when finishing fifth (of 6) at Lingfield last time out, though he drops in grade here, so a better effort could be on the way.
Prior to that Class 5 effort at Lingfield, the gelding ran well to take a very close-up second (of 8) over this trip in a Class 6 contest at Salisbury. On that form, he’s a much more serious player than early odds of 10/1 would have us believe.
His fourth at Newbury prior to that run at Salisbury, again over six furlongs but this time in Class 5 company also makes odds of 10/1 look quite chunky.
No stranger to running well on the all-weather, if we look at some of his form from the last year or so, it’s not difficult to conclude that this is a well-handicapped horse, who now sits 6 lbs below his all-weather winning mark.
He’s never run in a Class 6 over six furlongs on this surface, but he does have four Class 5 wins to his name, most recently at Chelmsford back in November 2023, when he won from a mark of 68. That tells me that he really ought to be capable of getting heavily involved in a race of this nature from a mark of 62.
Michael Attwater does quite well at Wolverhampton, while he’s also used Kaiya Fraser’s 5 lb claim to good effect on a few occasions this season, winning or placing with 25% of the runners ridden by the young apprentice.
If we factor in Fraser’s claim, then Impeach really does look well weighted in a race of this nature. All in all, he ticks far too many boxes for odds of 10/1 to be turned down.
