Impeach ran well yesterday, but simply had too much to do from a mile back, running on well at the death to finish not far out of the places in fifth. That’s racing for you.
It’s a typically quiet Sunday in the world of British horse racing, with just two meetings to keep us interested, plus a meeting over in Ireland too. The card at Hamilton isn’t a bad one, with one race in particular standing out from a betting point of view.

16:42 Hamilton - Rough Diamond to Win
Ahead of the penultimate race at Hamilton this afternoon, Rough Diamond looks to have a very solid chance of picking up that first win on British shores.
Previously raced in Ireland, the four-year-old, who just before joining his new yard in Britain, scored at Dundalk from a mark of 76, comes into this contest off the back of two solid efforts, both of which suggest that he’s a major player here.
After a couple of modest Class 4 efforts for his new trainer, the gelding stepped forward to finish third (of 10) over seven furlongs on soft ground at Carlisle, before going much closer in second (of 13) over six furlongs at Newcastle last time out.
The form of that second at Newcastle makes him of serious interest, that’s for sure. This is a race that contains less strength in depth, while he should be able to get a nice pitch in behind the leaders from his decent draw in Stall 2.
Jason Hart getting back in the saddle must go down as a clear positive too, as trainer Tristan Davidson likes to turn to Hart with those he fancies. The pair have a win/place strike rate of 46.8% in the last year, which is not to be ignored.
With ground, trip and class of race all seemingly in favour, this could very much be the seven-year-old’s time to strike.
