As the early betting ahead of this race suggests, it’s competitive stuff, and a case really could be made for a good handful here. However, looking at the early odds, Shalaa Asker ticks a few too many boxes for odds of 13/2 to not go down as being a little generous, as the table above suggests.
The gelding, trained by Adrian Keatley, ridden today by the always impressive Hollie Doyle, comes into this contest off the back of an encouraging effort over six furlongs at Southwell back at the start of the month, when he suggested that this step up to seven furlongs would suit.
The same can be said for his previous effort, which again came at Southwell over six furlongs, at the end of August. Again, in that race, his late work gave the impression that an extra furlong would allow him to seriously challenge. The form of that race has since worked out rather well.
Two wins and two places from eight runs at Southwell, we know that this horse can more than give his running at this venue, while he must go down as being well handicapped, sitting 10 lbs below his last winning mark.
Hollie Doyle has ridden twice before and he’s twice performed credibly, in better races too, so we really shouldn’t be surprised if he goes close here.
Last but certainly not least, he ranks very highly in this field for speed ratings, which when put together with everything else, is more than enough to justify a description of generous for odds of 13/2. I’d price him more stingily, that’s for sure. Take the value.
