20:30 Wolverhampton - Under Curfew to Win
We’re going to be waiting a while on Monday, with today’s best bet running in the final evening race at Wolverhampton, where Under Curfew looks generously priced at early odds of 7/1.
Caught late in the piece over seven furlongs at this venue just over a fortnight ago, the Tony Carroll runner ought to appreciate this step back down to six furlongs, which is a trip that he’s won over before.
A winner as recently as late July over five furlongs on the turf, Jack Doughty’s mount looks nicely handicapped from a mark of 55, which is 4 lbs below his last winning mark and just 1 lb above his last winning mark on the all-weather.
His performance in a Class 4, six-furlong contest at Brighton back in August tells me that he should be more than capable of making his presence strongly felt in a Class 6 race of this nature, that’s for sure.
The form of his last Class 6 run over this trip at Wolves, which came back in late 2023, also suggests that he’s a big player in this race.
Jack Doughty’s 5 lb claim is hard to ignore too as it leaves the eight-year-old in a position where he’s getting weight all round, which seems quite lenient, given both his previous achievements and the achievements of the others in this line-up.
Tony Carroll hasn’t been in amazing form with his runners of late, but he’s no stranger to success at Wolves, while he has a very promising strike rate with Jack Doughty in the saddle.
For my money, the gelding has a decent chance of winning this and is absolutely one of the key players. At the very least, he’s a bigger player than early odds of 7/1 would have us believe. Such odds should be taken by those seeking value.
