On Saturday, there is some fine action at venues such as York, while it’s the Ceasarewitch at Newmarket, which is always a great occasion. There’s also a decent-looking card over the jumps at Chepstow.
However, from a betting angle, I’m interested in the all-weather meeting at Chelmsford on Saturday, where the penultimate race on the card catches the eye. Read on for our free horse racing tips.

19:50 Chelmsford - Papa Don’t Preach to Win
The early betting ahead of this Class 6 affair over five furlongs suggests that this is very much Marching Mac’s to lose, though that sort has done plenty of racing over the last week, so 1. This may come too soon, and 2. His all-weather record doesn’t exactly make him stand out as an obvious follow-up winner.
Sure, the top weighted runner won well at Brighton four days ago, but he was given an easy time of it that day and I’m really not sure he’ll have it all his own way tonight. At very short odds, he’s there to be taken on, and it’s those short odds that have allowed Papa Don’t Preach to be nicely priced.
Kevin Frost’s runner hasn’t won for a while, but he’s clearly well handicapped and seemingly has plenty in favour here. This is far from a strong race and he has recent form that tells me he’s a big, big player.
At Windsor back in September, the gelding finished a staying-on third in a stronger race, which bodes well.
The pace of this contest also looks sure to suit, with Kento likely to make the running. That horse has a decent chance off the front end, but he’s been beaten by Papa Don’t Preach before and may just set this one up for the mount of Joe Leavy, whose 3 lb claim leaves our boy looking well in at the weights here.
His fourth (of 11) on the all-weather at Newcastle over this trip back in April also tells me that he should be capable of laying down a big challenge in a race of this nature. Let’s face it, he was winning Class 4 races as recently as 2023, so don’t be surprised if he comes up with the goods in a lowly Class 6 race like this.
Well drawn in Stall 1, the five-year-old looks poised to go well, so well that he should be the favourite in my book. Odds of 10/3 are well worth taking by those seeking value.
