It wasn’t to be yesterday, with Dashing Darcey running a decent race to finish third after a poor start saw him left with too much to do. In fairness, the colt kept on well and likely will win a race of that nature in the not too distant future, so he’s worth keeping tabs on.

19:00 Wolverhampton - Port Noir to Win
I’m struggling to see why Port Noir is as big as he is in the early betting ahead of the 19:00 contest on Wolverhampton’s all-weather track this evening.
Certainly not a prolific winner, the mare comes into this contest having run well when upped in trip for the first time recently, performing as if she’d definitely have a race of this type in her locker before long.
Robert Stephens’ runner won over seven furlongs at Wolves back in April of this year,staying on strongly to get the job done from 2 lbs higher in the weights than she is tonight.
Since that course victory, she’s performed well, finishing third, before that recent step up in trip saw her run respectably in fourth, staying on in what was a slightly better race than this one. With that under her belt, she looks ready to land another significant blow tonight.
The booking of top jockey Rab Havlin is eye-catching and tells me that connections are looking to land the prize here, while she rates very strongly in terms of speed ratings too.
If we factor in that she’s well drawn in Stall 1, which should see her get a nice ground-saving position on the inside, then she really does start to appeal from a betting point of view, especially with a likely decent pace on, which should aid her closing style.
All things considered, she ticks a few too many boxes for the current odds to be considered anything other than generous. The next win looks just around the corner, so much so that 5/1 is worth taking.
