Having picked up a much-needed EFL Cup win during the week, the Saints will now be looking to secure their first Premier League win of the season when hosting Everton at home on Saturday afternoon.

For the Toffees, it’s all about building on what has been a pleasing recent run of form. Read on for Southampton vs Everton predictions and tips.

Southampton vs Everton prediction

For the Southampton vs Everton match prediction, we believe the final score will be a 2-1 win for Southampton based on our analysis.

Sure, the hosts haven’t won in the league yet, but this is more realistic than some of their recent tasks, while they’ve also delivered some improved efforts at home, especially offensively, so don’t be surprised if they just about get the better of their low-scoring visitors.

Southampton vs Everton head-to-head statistics

This will not be the first time that the pair have faced each other this season. Back in September, they met in the EFL Cup, with Southampton winning on penalties following a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

Southampton vs Everton preview

This match will be played on 02/11/2024 at St Mary’s. Kick off will be at 15:00 GMT.

It looked for all to see, after Thomas Cannon had completed Stoke City’s comeback from two goals down at St. Mary’s, that Russell Martin’s men were heading for yet another game without a win in regulation time during the week.

Fortunately for both the Saints manager and the home fans in attendance, defender James Bree popped up with an 88th minute winner. Saturday’s hosts will now be looking to use that win to kick on in the league.

Not only will they be encouraged by their mid-week efforts, but it’s also fair to say that the Saints’ last couple of efforts at home in the league, scoring twice against Leicester recently, have been a bit more like it, so I wouldn’t be too surprised if we see a home side that plays with some confidence here.

As far as the visitors are concerned, there was no mid-week action, thanks to being dumped out of the EFL Cup by the Saints earlier in the season. They’ve had a clear week to prepare for this fixture.

In fairness, Sean Dyche’s men will head to the south coast off the back of some decent results, drawing with Fulham last weekend, which came after they beat Ipswich, drew with Newcastle, and got the better of Crystal Palace. All positive stuff.

Adam Armstrong to Score

It’s not been a vintage season for Southampton striker Adam Armstrong thus far, though he’s not a player to dismiss just yet.

The forward bagged his first goal of the season during that cup success against Stoke in the week, while we shouldn’t forget that this is a man who scored 24 league goals as the Saints won promotion last season, scoring on the big stage in the play-off final.

Not too heavily used this term as manager Russell Martin has tinkered, but having found the net and played well on Tuesday night, I wouldn’t be surprised if Armstrong gets the nod up top, and if he does, he’ll be chomping at the bit to get an Everton defence that has given plenty away on the road.

The 26-year-old came on at half time against Manchester City last weekend, turning in a lively performance, during which he looked hungry, shooting twice, working the City keeper once.

After two encouraging efforts, with a far from overly demanding task on his plate, I’m backing Armstrong to score his first league goal of the campaign.
