Saturday is back and that means getting stuck into the racing cards, and as is often the case, it’s a busy day in the world of British horse racing, with several meetings taking place, both over the jumps and on the all-weather.
We’ve reached that time of year where the National Hunt racing starts nice and early. From a betting point of view, a couple of the early races at Kelso appeal. Read on for our free horse racing tips.

Horse | Track | Time | Odds | Fair Odds | Value |

Bois Guillbert | Kelso | 12:07 | 9/2 | +3.9% |
11:38 Kelso - Bollingerandkrug (each-way)
The second event on the card at Kelso is an interesting little race, that’s for sure. Only six runners go to post and for one reason or another, you could probably make a case for most. However, at the early prices, Bollingerandkrug looks a little generously priced.
Lucinda Russell’s runner comes into this contest having recently reappeared over course and distance, finishing a never-nearer fifth two weeks ago. That run should have blown the cobwebs away and I really wouldn’t be surprised if the gelding now delivers an improved effort.
After all, we’re talking about the horse that won this very race last year, doing so from 7 lbs higher in the handicap. Moreover, I’d argue that this year’s renewal is slightly less demanding, so if he’s on song in terms of fitness and race readiness, there’s no reason why he can’t go well.
With horses of this nature, in races of this nature, Lucinda Russell has a very good record at Kelso, make no mistake about that, while she certainly knows how to ready one at this venue.
The early favourite is Gold Des Bois, who should definitely be respected, but Bollingerandkrug has beaten that one over C&D before, making the disparity in pricing not look entirely accurate.
To be honest, the nine-year-old, who likes today’s ground and who has a record of four wins and one place from seven runs over course and distance, ticks too many boxes for odds of 8/1 not to be considered generous.
12:07 Kelso - Bois Guillbert to Win
I’m also siding with the Lucinda Russell runner in the third race at Kelso, where Bois Guillbert is another horse that merits a bit more respect than the early odds suggest as far as I’m concerned.
One win from two runs at Kelso, the five-year-old, who is yet to be fully exposed, returned from 200 days off the track to post a very encouraging effort when stepping up in trip at Perth just over a month ago, running on well to take a not-far-away third.
That Perth effort suggests that he’s likely got more improvement in him over this longer trip, so I really wouldn’t be surprised if he took another step in the right direction with that run under his belt. Interestingly, the winner of that race has since gone on to run well at Class 2 level, which bodes well.
Lucinda Russell has a very promising record with certain types of runners at Kelso and this one definitely slots nicely into that category, while the trainer also has a more than decent record when putting 3 lb claimer P W Wadge in the saddle.
Quite simply, with loads seemingly in favour, Bois Guillbert looks primed for a big run, so much so that I cannot help but conclude that odds of 6/1 are a bit bigger than they really should be.
