Sunday’s Premier League action kicks off with a clash at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea take on Aston Villa as they go in search of back-to-back wins in the league for the first time since September.

The visitors will be quite desperate to pick up a win too, especially as they’ve won none of their last seven in all competitions. Read on for our Chelsea vs Aston Villa predictions and tips.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa prediction

For the Chelsea vs Aston Villa match prediction, we believe the final score will be a 1-1 draw based on our analysis.

Both teams played in Europe during the week, but it’s the hosts who’ve had less time to prepare having played away in Germany on Thursday night, while this is very much the sort of game where the visitors have thrived this season.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa head-to-head statistics

This will be the first time that the pair have met during the current campaign. Last season, they drew 2-2 at Villa Park, after Villa had won by a goal to nil at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa preview

This match will be played on 1/12/2024 at Stamford Bridge. Kick off will be at 13:30 GMT.

On Thursday night, away in Germany, it was a case of getting the job done without overdoing it for Chelsea, who have the often inevitable task of juggling both Premier League and Europa League commitments.

Enzo Maresca’s men picked up what may look like a routine win on paper against Heidenheim, but they were under pressure at several times during that game and didn’t look to secure at the back, which means that it’s not too difficult to see the Villans making headway at Stamford Bridge, where the hosts have won just one of their last three Premier League games.

Things haven’t exactly gone well for Sunday’s visitors in recent times. They’re without a win in seven in all competitions, emerging successful from none of their last four league games, but they do head to the capital having avoided defeat in each of their last two, while there was plenty to like about the way they nullified Italian giants Juventus during the week.

Having played relatively well against the Old Lady, Unai Emery's men should fancy themselves to get a result on Sunday, especially as they were not inconvenienced by a trip out of the country midweek.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa Betting tips

There’s some value to be had by betting on the visitors to get a positive result at Stamford Bridge.

Aston Villa +1 Handicap

OK, the visitors are a little out of sorts, but they battled well during the week, forcing a draw against Juventus, which is a result that should fill them with the confidence required to frustrate their opponents in West London on Sunday.

As the table above suggests, odds of 19/20 (51.2% implied probability) would more accurately reflect the chances of the visitors either winning or drawing at Stamford Bridge, so it’s well worth taking odds of 23/20 (46.5% implied probability).

Unai Emery’s men have stopped the rot a little, avoiding defeat in each of their last two games, while their defeat to Liverpool prior to that was hardly a terrible one. Against the best team in the league, they certainly competed, leaving the field with an xG difference of -0.52. Lots of teams have and indeed will do far worse against the runaway league leaders, that’s for sure.

What’s more, despite being unbeaten in five, the Blues haven’t been overly convincing of late, beating Leicester by the narrowest of margins last week, while as touched on above, they’ve had less time to prepare for this game, so I really wouldn’t be surprised if they were less convincing than the early odds would suggest that they might be.
