It’s interesting that Thomas Frank’s men have the best home record in the division, yet at the same time, they have the joint-worst away record. Does playing at the Brentford Community Stadium really increase Brentford’s powers to such a degree? Well, they likely feel more comfortable at home, which can be said for many teams, but we shouldn’t ignore the fact that the fixture list has been rather kind to them.

So far, the Bees have played seven home games, six of which they’ve won, but in none of those seven games have they played against a side that is currently ranked in the top half, with none of their seven home opponents ranking in the top 12 even.

In the betting, I very much like the look of a bet on Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimarães to work the Brentford keeper at least once.

Far from Newcastle’s biggest goal threat, Guimarães hasn’t quite found his shooting range this season, hitting the target just four times since the start of the campaign, but he hasn’t been shy to pull the trigger, taking Newcastle’s fifth highest number of shots, averaging 1.09 shots per 90 minutes.

Against an open-looking Brentford team, whom Guimarães scored against last season, in West London, the Brazilian should fancy himself to get forward and make a good fist of grabbing his first goal of the season.

If we also consider that no Premier League team has conceded more shots on target at home than Brentford this season, with only one team has conceded more home shots than the Bees, then he’s worth betting on to at least register a shot on target.

Bruno Guimarães to Score

I’ll be honest, as a secondary option, I can’t resist taking a punt on Guimarães finding the net, much as he did in this fixture last term.

After all, we’re talking about a midfielder that can score goals. He notched seven last season, and it probably won’t be too long before the Brazilian, who is a key part of the Newcastle midfield, gets up and running this time around.

Given Brentford’s rather appalling defensive record, coupled with some respectable shot data on Guimarães’ part, odds of 13/2 appeal.
