Nottingham Forest vs Aston Villa head-to-head statistics
When these two last faced off, in February 2024, Villa won by four goals to one at home. When they last met at City Ground, back in November of 2023, Forest won by two goals to nil.
Nottingham Forest vs Aston Villa preview
This match will be played on 14/12/2024 at City Ground. Kick off will be at 17:30 GMT.
Prior to last weekend’s round of games, the Tricky Trees had lost three of their last four, but they could easily be forgiven for losing against the likes of Man City and Arsenal.
At Old Trafford, in front of a home crowd excited to see their team play under new boss Ruben Amorim, Nuno Espirito Santo’s men provided a timely reminder for anyone starting to doubt their inclusion in the top half, winning by three goals to two.
With that result banked, Saturday’s hosts sit in a lofty fifth position, narrowly ahead of Aston Villa.
For Unai Emery, everything seemed to be going wrong before his team bounced back with a big win against Brentford just over a week ago, a win that was followed by the narrowest of victories over strugglers Southampton at the weekend.
Those two wins served as a springboard for continental success during the week, with the Villans returning from German shores with all three points thanks to a win over RB Leipzig, but will those mid-week exploits prove to be costly? We’ll find out in Nottingham.
Nottingham Forest vs Aston Villa Betting tips
Two bets appeal ahead of Saturday’s action in Nottingham.
Nottingham Forest to Score Over 1.5 Goals
I’m very much of the opinion that the hosts have a slightly better chance of grabbing a couple of goals in this fixture than the early odds suggest.
As touched on above, the visitors endured a tough game on Tuesday night, which will have disrupted their preparations, while they’ve not exactly defended well of late, conceding twice during the week, keeping just one clean sheet in their last four.
On the road, the Villans have shipped two or more goals in each of their last three away games (in the league), as well as in four of their last five too. The fact that they’ve also conceded an average of 1.68 xG away from home this term doesn’t exactly suggest that they’ll keep it tight at City Ground.
With the hosts arriving in hot scoring form after last weekend, odds of 5/4 are worth taking.
Elliot Anderson to Score
At 7/1, I also like the look of Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson to find the net. Yet to score for his new club, Anderson has rather rapidly established himself as a very important player for Nuno Espirito Santo, especially in a creative sense.
The former Newcastle youngster picked up his fourth assist of the season at Old Trafford last weekend, delivering something of an all-round midfielder masterclass.
So far, Anderson has been one of Forest’s best providers, but it wouldn’t be a surprise if he started to chip in with a few goals here and there, especially as he finds himself playing regularly for the first time since scoring seven goals in 21 appearances on loan at Bristol Rovers during the 2021/22 campaign.
Moreover, it’s not as if the 22-year-old has failed to get into shooting positions. In the Premier League this season, he’s averaged 1.87 shots per 90 minutes.
At the end of the day, now that he’s playing every week at this level (for the first time), it probably won’t be long until the all-action midfielder starts picking up a few goals, and at odds of 7/1, I’m betting that he scores his first in a Forest shirt in front of the City Ground faithful on Saturday afternoon.
