While it’s been a very merry Christmas for many in the Premier League, for Ange Postecoglou and Spurs, there hasn’t been much festive joy at all. There was that EFL Cup quarter-final success against Man United, but since that win, which wasn’t without complication, things have gone downhill rather rapidly.

Just before Christmas, the Aussie manager looked on in disgust as his team folded incredibly tamely against Liverpool, conceding no fewer than six goals in the process, before once again enduring a frustrating 90 minutes on the touchline on Boxing Day, with Spurs losing by a goal to nil at Nottingham Forest.

After two tough results and with them sitting in a rather unflattering league position, this is now very much a must-win game for the hosts. More than that, a statement win is required.

For Sunday's visitors, last time out, Vitor Pereira continued to change the fortunes of Wolves, masterminding a Boxing Day win over Manchester United on home soil.

For the second game in a row, the men in Orange not only won, but scored multiple goals and kept a clean sheet. That’s now two wins from two games for Pereira, who couldn’t really have asked for a better start to life at Molineux. There will be tougher days to come, that’s for sure, but right now, it looks as if the appointment of the Portuguese manager was a good one.

Given their festive form, and the rather worrying form of their hosts, this is probably the perfect time for Wolves to be visiting the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, where they won as recently as February 2024.

At odds of 13/10, I'll be betting on the visitors to either win or draw this game. Spurs look anything but a side ready to start winning matches of this nature with any sort of regularity, especially given their injury problems, and if the crowd start to show their displeasure on Sunday, which seems quite likely, then this could be seriously tough going for Ange’s men.

Moreover, the visitors are now in flying form, while they are very much set up to enjoy playing as counter-attacking underdogs in games of this type.

Not only have the hosts struggled to keep clean sheets of late, but on Boxing Day, they looked like a team lacking in offensive ideas. Everyone knows that Heung-min Son has been far from his deadly self this season, while Dominic Solanke, hard as he works, now at a bigger club, with bigger expectations on his shoulders, looks far from a regular goal scorer.

Of course, the likes of Dejan Kulusevski and James Maddison can hurt teams, as they often have this season, but if those two aren't quite firing, which they weren't last time out, Spurs look a little toothless, so don’t be surprised if Vitor Pereira’s men make them work harder than the early odds suggest.

Let’s face it, the hosts are still without key defensive players, they’re out of form, while the pressure is very much on them. Oh, and they’re absolutely not set up to prevent teams from scoring. Is this a recipe for visiting offensive success? I think so.
