After tasting defeat on the road last time out, on Monday, Man United return home, where they’ll take on an in-form Newcastle side.
In footballing terms, it wasn’t a very merry Christmas for Ruben Amorim, who watched his team be downed by Wolves on Boxing Day, tasting defeat for the third game in a row. Read on for our Man United vs Newcastle predictions and tips.
Man United vs Newcastle prediction
For the Man United vs Newcastle match prediction, we believe the final score will be a 2-1 win for Newcastle based on our analysis.
The hosts continue to struggle, especially defensively, while the visitors will arrive at Old Trafford in fine offensive form, so don’t be too surprised if the Magpies turn out to be too strong.

Man United vs Newcastle head-to-head statistics
For the first time this season, the pair will meet. When they faced off at Old Trafford last season, the hosts won by three goals to two, returning the favour after Newcastle won 1-0 at home earlier in the campaign.
Man United vs Newcastle preview
This match will be played on date at Old Trafford. Kick off will be at 20:00 GMT.
Prior to their pre-Christmas defeat at Spurs in the EFL Cup, the Red Devils had been in decent form, winning in the Europa League, before bearing rivals Manchester City away from home.
Unfortunately, such a result has not propelled Ruben Amorim’s men. In fact, they’ve gone the wrong way, losing three games on the spin and losing in rather desperate fashion. Sure they scored three goals in that cup defeat, though it’s fair to say that all three were gifts, while there’s been virtually no offensive promise since.
In the final third, Amorim’s men looked somewhat clueless at home to Bournemouth just before Christmas, while they didn’t exactly create much at Wolves on Boxing Day either.
For the Magpies, the festive period has been a rather cheerful one. They resumed winning ways by battering Leicester on home soil a fortnight ago, before booking their place in the EFL Cup semis with a home win over Brentford.
That victory against the Bees was followed by a thumping win at Ipswich, before Eddie Howe’s men continued to shift through the gears on Boxing Day, winning three nil against Aston Villa at St. James’ Park.

Diogo Dalot to Receive a Card
It’s been a while since Diogo Dalot last went into the book, so we could be forgiven for thinking that he’s toned his behaviour down a bit, though if we scratch beneath the surface just a little, we can see that he’s typically making multiple fouls in big games of this nature, making odds of 4/1 look quite generous.
For starters, no Manchester United player has made more fouls than Diogo Dalot this season, with the Portuguese defender picking up three yellows. Mainoo, Ugarte and Martinez, of the regulars, have all picked up more cards than Dalot, but given the odds available, Dalot is definitely the one who looks leniently priced.
Let’s face it, when United faced Spurs recently, Dalot made three fouls, while he was very lucky to avoid being booked against Manchester city, making four fouls.
For a while, the full back had quieted down in terms of fouls, but since he hasn’t received a booking for a while, he’s got rather sloppy again, committing 11 fouls in his last five domestic games. It likely won’t be long until his name goes into the book for the fourth time in the league this season, and at odds of 4/1, I’m betting that’s exactly what happens on Monday.
