On Wednesday evening, it’s crunch time for Spurs and Liverpool in the EFL Cup as the pair meet at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the first leg of the semi-final.
Ahead of the second leg at Anfield, both teams will be looking to secure a positive result, especially as both enter this game having endured negative weekends. Read on for our Tottenham vs Liverpool predictions and tips.
Tottenham vs Liverpool prediction
For the Tottenham vs Liverpool match prediction, we believe the final score will be a 2-1 win for Liverpool based on our analysis.
We all saw how easily the Reds picked off Spurs at this venue in the Premier League recently, but with what is likely to be a weakened side, and with the second leg to come, it could be less high-scoring from the visitors this time around, though against a depleted home team that struggles massively at the back, they can still get the job done.

Tottenham vs Liverpool head-to-head statistics
This won’t be the first meeting between the pair this season. Less than a month ago, Spurs were downed by Liverpool on home soil, losing by six goals to three. Wednesday’s visitors have now won each of their last two against Spurs, winning four of the last five renewals of this fixture too.
Tottenham vs Liverpool preview
This match will be played on date at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Kick off will be at 20:00 GMT.
It was another tough watch for both Ange Postecoglou and Spurs fans at the weekend, and not just from a performance point of view, as poor defending once again came to the fore.
Sure, not for the first time this season, Spurs were all too easy to break down, but they were also the recipients of a rather poor combination of referring and VAR use. Let’s face it, Newcastle’s Joelinton clearly handled the ball directly before Anthony Gordon cancelled out Dominic Solanke’s early opener.
The fact of the matter is, though, that Spurs are now without a win in four games, while they’ve won just two of their last 11 in all competitions. Not exactly what the doctor ordered ahead of a semi-final against the Premier League leaders, and nor is their injury list.
Wednesday’s visitors also had reason to be downbeat at the weekend. Despite being red-hot favourites to send the Red Devils packing at Anfield, the best they could do was muster an underwhelming 2-2 draw.
For the first time in five matches, Arne Slot’s men not only failed to win, but they failed to impress, showcasing some fairly big defensive holes. Postecoglou’s men will be hoping that those holes aren’t filled in before this game.
Overall, though, things continue to go well for the Reds, who go to the Tottenham Hotspur favourites as big favourites, and rightly so.
Tottenham vs Liverpool betting tips
Ahead of Wednesday’s EFL Cup clash, just one player bet appeals.
Lucas Bergvall to Be Carded
Much to the disappointment of the entire Spurs crowd, Lucas Bergvall, who was arguably the best player for the hosts, was taken off after an hour last time out, but it’s likely that the energetic midfielder was subbed with an eye on this game.
After a very encouraging effort against the Magpies, and with the lengthy list of injuries, Bergvall is likely to start here. If he does, he looks a great bet to get booked at 3/1.
The Swedish youngster clearly has many qualities, but he’s also shown a keenness for flying in and being overly exuberant, catching the eye of referees several times, which is hard to ignore given that he’s not played that much.
Bergvall was carded when coming on against Liverpool in the league recently, while he also averages 0.62 cards per 90 minutes in the league. That stat alone makes 3/1 looks very big.
Overall this season, the 18-year-old has four yellows, all of which have been received since the start of December, which is when he first started being used on a regular basis.
Against a Liverpool midfield that is tricky to face, the high energy and tough tackling youngster is simply too generously priced to go in the book. Odds of 3/1 should be taken by those seeking value.
